Default Post your pics of aftermarket rims on 2nd gen

My 76 TA has the standard pontiac ralley rims on it as shown in the pic below. I want to jack up the rear end a little and put some mags on it. Was curious who is running this old school stance and what size rim/tire combinations work with a 2nd gen TA without rubbing in the front. I'll likely go air shocks in the rear. Hoping a few would post pics of the combo that they have now and what tire/rim size combination they have.

I would keep the ralley II wheels you have. The Ralley II wheels look really nice on your car. Don't ruin it by jacking the back end up and installing wheels that stick out the side. I personally went with the American Racing Outlaw II wheels (15x7) with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires, 235/60/R15 up front and 255/60/R15 out back. They offer the same wheel in a 15x8, but the extra 1 inch is added to the outside of the wheel, making it stick out the fenders just a bit (which I can't stand). My stock snowflake wheels would not fit over my aftermarket brakes, so I had no choice but to buy new wheels. The picture below is of the front wheel with the car on jack stands. The wheels should look perfect once I lower the car 2 inches.

your rims look great. the factory ones on my car are just too little. I hate the look of little skinny tires. Fine for certain applications but just not my flavor on this particular project.

Any rubbing issues with the fronts?

The factory used 15x8's all the way around with the WS6 and Turbo wheels.

If you want the best factory correct look go with the 71-76 Honeycombs.
If you want the best factory wheel look go with the 78-81 WS6 wheel.

IMHO, 15x7's just look too small. a 15x8 with the proper offset will not stick outside the wheel wells. I'm running a 15x10 wheel with 5.5 BS and an 11" wide DOT tire and it comes right to the edge of the fender lip.

No rubbing in the front. I have a slight rub in the back if I go up a steep driveway. My backspacing is 4.5 in the front and 5 out back.
Just to give you some information a few years ago I had some Euro T/A 305/50/15 on the back of the car with a 15x8.5 rim. They had 4.5 backspacing. I don't have any pictures on this PC, but Monday at work I will post a couple to show you what they looked like on the car.

ok, cool. The rubbing in the back, is that something air shocks would take care of?

Ive always like the "big meats, and front runner" look. Here are a couple of pix...
On the Drag Lites, I run a 165R15 in the front and a 275/60R15 in the back. On the stock wheels, I run a 245/60/15 in the front, and a 255/60/15 in the back/

The rubbing in the back may go away if you put air shocks on and jack the car up, but I would not do it. I would go with narrower tires rather than put air shocks on. You are just asking for trouble. Besides the rubbing I am talking about only happens when going up steep inclines such as driveways.
Handling and braking will be affected not to mention the stress you are putting on the mounting points of the shock upper and lower.
Ask me how I know. I have owned a Firebird of some kind for the last 30 years. Back in my young and foolish days I too wanted the biggest tire on the back and I did not care what it took. So I put on some air shocks and slapped on the biggest tire I could find not once but twice and both times coaused mjor problems. One a 74 Trans Am handled like a pig after the tires were put on to the point I rolled the car. Not learning from the 1st time on a 77 Formula with air shocks and the drivers side shock come up into the trunk as I was driving 70 not a pretty sight.
Just for reference the biggest 15" street tire is the 295/50. You can get some DOT drag tires that are bigger but wear will be the issue.
Also on 2nd gen cars without tubbing the rear a 10" with a backspacing of 5-5.5 possible 6 is the biggest rim that will fit without having it stick outside the wheelwell.
Hope this helps and sorry for being so long winded.

You could also go with a set of custom Ralley II wheels. They can make them in nearly any height and width you want. Check out this month's issue of High Performance Pontiac, page 50 for a nice looking example on a `69 GTO Judge. I can't remember who makes them, but I'm sure someone here will know.

i have some old 15 inch aluminum slots off of my car that you can have if you want, theyre up near greensboro, mine was jacked up in the back with old crappy coil overs and those wheels but not real wide tires, just so you know- not only will more than a 235 up front rub, but it will also follow all the little grooves of the road and be a real pain to drive
dont have any pics of it that are digital so...
if you like the look of the rally II, wheel vintiques makes a 15 and 16 in 7 8 or 10, im lookin to get the tens once i get the motor sorted out

if you want them, theyre yours, just come and get them. need to be cleaned up
i'm guessing they are 15x7 or 15x8
there is a place locally that will glass bead them for 15 bucks a peice or you can get them polished (i have no idea how much that costs)

cant really get you a pic of mine but i can assure you they look almost exactly like those
if your wanting real wide back tires you'd probably just want these for the front
what year is you TA?
