4500 HP Dominator issues
Has anyone else had problem with Throttle Plate screws loosening and falling out into the motor. Carb is a brand new Holly HP 4500 1050 dominator.I thought these screws were supposed to be staked from the factory so they cant fall out.

This is a know issue with the 4500 series and they make a thin plate that MUST be used when installing it on an open manifold.
Personally never happened but heard it a bizillion times over the years. |

Funny you say this is a common problem.. I've managed and owned speed shops and have run several different dominators myself and never have encountered that problem, unless someone has had the carb apart before and didn't reassemble it correctly?

The older Brass screws were staked in the middle by a dimple that held them on the shaft. The new stainless screws on the HPs are supposed to be loctited to the shafts. 2. The only known issue that the plate mentioned above would solve would be if a part of the internal secondary linkage came loose and went into the engine. Having the plate on the intake when a throttle blade screw comes loose does nothing as it drops right down the bore in the plate you describe. No benefit to having the plate with the throttle screw coming loose. I typically remove each screw that is a stainless screw (if it moves easily) and reloctiting it. 3. Agree totally, that if the screw was loctited properly by Holley and never loosened by someone after that, it is a BIT** to get the screws out without heat. I guess you guys don't race a lot over the years or I'm more informed and have the plate on my car ever since I went to a 4500 series carb?
Don't run it. Doesn't matter to me, but at least i told ya here. *************** Mr. Gasket Part Number #6004 ***************** The plate is a 4 hole plate solid under the screw throttle shaft thingie designed just for that issue. Last edited by PONTIAC DUDE; 11-06-2006 at 11:39 AM. |

You are all talking about two seperate issues -- the "safety plate" is for keeping the linkage from entering the engine if an open plenum manifold is used - and the linkage falls out -- there is nothing - short of a screen under the carb -- that will keep the screws out if they come loose --

Safety plate stops linkage screws/parts from falling in...it won't do squat for the throttle plate/shaft screws...just need to make sure they are secured somehow.

Apparently CGeise and Jagtec1 are the only ones besides me that read the man's question. THE THROTTLE PLATE SCREW IS LOOSENING AND FALLING INTO THE MOTOR.

Had a chance to check out I was able to back all the screwsout with little or no effert needed to back them out. I couldnt find a trace of loctite on any of the screws.
