Default why is this happening, moisture in breathers?

When I took off my valve covers yesterday to check the rockers, i noticed the milky oil in the bottom of the breathers. The motor only has about 500 miles on it. why is this happening? I did put the car away on a cold day do you think it was not warmed up enough?

Condensation. Your last sentence sums it up.

shell rotella 15w-40. This is not a sign of a failed head gasket?

This happens with short run, short trip cars. You have to get it good and hot for a while to burn it off.

In Arizona we don't have a lot of moisture in the air so condensation is not normally a problem. When my breathers looked like that I had a blown head gasket. It could be just condensation but it could be a bad head gasket too.

Agree with the burn off of the moisture and also that you need a proper PCV system as the corrosive gases are really bad on the lower engine without a good one working. Engine live went up tremendously one people figured out that they needed to expel the corrosive gases in the crankcase. The road draft tube was the first step in that direction. PCV is a much better step.

Warm up the engine properly for a while and then look for condensation in the covers.

The man is from Minnesota so I would assume the cold weather is contributing.

What would be the best way to run a PCV?

definately condensation, chrome valve covers also are prone to this problem
billet covers are a little better for not having this prob,i wouldnt even worry about it

condensation, chrome valve covers are more prone to causing this, and if you
park the car outside in the weather, instead of a garage, billet valve covers
dont do this as bad,

Do it the way the Pontiac factory did it for 40+ years.
Oddly enough many people remove the factory PCV system thinking its a "smog" device.
It is, but its also an anti sludge device. It only has positives and no negatives.

Hmmm, older post, but after running my car this weekend, pulled the valve covers just to inspect the rockers, and noticed the oil up top was a little milky looking. Turned the valve covers over, and they had a layer of what resembled white lithium grease. Drained the oil expecting to find water in it, but no water. Moisture is all up top under the valve covers and in the breathers. Ran this same motor back in june, without this problem. Since then, I've only had the intake manifold off. I am using Valvoline oil, and I don't use a PCV valve. What could be causing this now?
