Greetings friends I need some help on what is and is not correct on the 67 dual gate console and shifter. First of all the simple one. Is the mounting base of the dual gate supposed to also be painted black, or left bare metal color?
Now about the cosole. I see many that have a lid where the rear of the lid is higher on one side than the other said? But, in front is is even? Something wrong here, or is this the way they built them? Also, on one side under the lid is a piece of steel mounted together with one of the hing screws. It seems to have no spring to it so what's it for? Also, when you turn a console over so it's up side down. If one said is bowed out more than the iother, is this just normal production ? Or, is it maybe made that way because it fits under the other seat better? Is the flocking inside the console compartment kind of a light gray/blue? Thanks, and good day friends. Mike

The base of the dual gate shifter i believe was left without paint.
i would say the lid is skewed at the back, mine sits even . Your base should not be bowed out on either side. mine is straight on both sides. Flocking i would bet is suppose to be black in color, inside storage bin . I need mine redone all flocking is gone only color i have seen is black. There should be a spring hooked up to your door hinge. |

Hello...the base of the dual gate shifter was originally black phosphate plated. The Console glove box should be flocked grey as wel as the underside of the glove door.

Here is a company that provides flocking material and instructions. Looks pretty easy. http://www.donjer.com/softflock/howto.htm

car crazy is right. the company is don jer. they have many colors of flocking to choose from. i just restored my 66 gto, check it out, freds gto .com, and i purchased their cheap kit with the hand flocker. worked great.i was so pleased that i redid my glove box.just make sure that you sand off all the original stuff down to the fiberglass base, that way you will have a perfectfinished job.
i to had the metal tab in the hinge of my console door and i thought it was a spring, but couldn't figure out how it works,so decided i don't need it.the lid works fine without it.if you recall, when the car was new all that this thing did was release the lid from the lock, well, now you press the lock and lift the lid pretty much like you did with this thing in there. good luck fred still spendin money havin fun got er done |

Thank you everyone. I may try removing the old piece of metal under the hing and see if the lid sits better. It's not doing anything because it has no spring left in it's long life anways. A big thank you for the info on where to get flocking. I was worried about where to get it done or buy some and do it myself.
By the way, I used to restore old firearms for other people as a hobby and extra income. The metal on many is called blueing and I have used it many times. I have found that it's a great replacment for the phosphate on bolts and things but a heck of a lot less to buy. I buy it by the quart and supply houses for about $18.00. You can get it in the normal gloss on most newer guns or the dull none reflective on some new and many older guns. It's simple to clean the piece with something and then apply it with a cotton swab, rag, or simply dip the pieces in the salution. Maybe others have used it as well. Once it's there and dried it will last a long, long time. Again, the factory here is money and the ability to DIY in no time at all. Again, thanks to everyone. Mike
