Just realized there are two different type casting #'s on these desirable heads.
One type with '061' across the center like most other heads, and one with '061' along the left center port. Both types appear to have the same shallow open combustion chambers. 1st image is the set I have here - dated B237 2nd image from an ebay auction - dated E187

Sounds good Blue.
Was hoping to catch the eye of those who have these heads so we can ID the respective dates. The way the #'s on type-1 above are likely to rust to an illegible state there is a good chance some of these heads are not recognized and end up being scrapped.

tc, that's probably D237.
About 3 weeks before the last pic. Looks like it's getting narrowed down.

Mine are like this, one dated C087 With more common horizonal 061,The other dated D037 With verticle casted 061 on it, I think they are original set, they were stored for many years at a local yard, Have aftermarket springs and retainers(gold anodized) Someone must have known there potential back then but i didnt, never heard of them until recently The yard where i found them folded in the later 70s. I bought every pontiac head there, 670,62,96, and a crap load of 6xs. I also know of another set of these 061 things.

My 061s have the verticle casting number up one port like the second pic. They're in storage. Originally from a '67 Catalina with 2bbl 400. Big valves, push-in studs, all accy and exhaust holes tapped from factory.
What are good 061 cores going for these days? I think these heads will appreciate over time. When I started hanging out here a few years ago, folks were hating on the 061s and arguing about valve size. I almost tossed them when I cleaned up a year ago. In the last year, I've seen more 061-related posts with accurate/positive info. Its getting the street-cred as a good small-chamber, big valve head. Hey, that rhymes.......

Judging from the very small sampling here it would seem the casting numbers were changed some time in March 1967.
Thank you for posting everyone.
