I am starting to gather parts for a 70 car. I need a trunk pan. I checked PY they show one for a camaro and it will need some mods. Year one shows one for 70-73 firebird. I dont want to pay truck freight. I am close to classic industries and they have one for a camaro cheap around 80 bucks. I have a feeling that year one sells a camaro pan and thats why they say some minor differences from original. What is a difference? Who sells a correct pan? Or they are all camaro pans? Thanks

SegeF, I can't speak to the fit or usefulness of the repop pans, but the MPC lists the 70-73 trunk pan as part number 9665292, discontinued in 1981 at about $400 list (so today's price seems like a steal!) and that the part was also used by Chevrolet (ie Camaro, although I do not have a chev MPC to verify). The originals were the same so the repops SHOULD be the same. It makes sense. The unique parts to Camaro would be the pieces such as tail panel, outer wheelhouses and quarters.

There are two trunk pans on the market. A smaller one that just replaces the lower section and does not have the body drain holes cut out. This one is usually priced around $80-$100 and is total CRAP! The better one covers most of the trunk floor, comes with the body drain holes pre-cut, and is usually priced around $150.

Check out dynacorn! They have a trunk pan for the early second gen. camaros (70-73) that starts at the rear tail panel goes all the way to the back of the rear seat and extends out to the drop off panel seam. It also has the tank supports welded to the bottom. I found out about it on a camaro sight while searching for tips on body restoration. The web site is Nastyz-28.com under body restoration, There is some talk about it. I don't know if will work on the early firebird or not but I'm interested in finding out!
