It's happened, you all know it, you raced a car and lost, really bad. Tell us about it!
My 70 went down very hard about a week after I started to drive it. I thought I was the **** in it, lotta torque and HP, and sounded like It would run 10's (just had it on open headers). I was driving in my area and there was a new 911 Turbo, so I got in the lane next to him, slowed down and went into 1st gear, and nailed it tell I passed him, and we pulled up to a red light. He said "WTF do you have in that thing" I said "run me and find out". Well needless to say I didn't stand a chance in hell, the light went green, I gotta great start, but the 911 was ahead of me, and I looked down, as I continued to floor it, and I was doing about 80 and he was way ahead. That is when I learned that just because your car sounds like an NHRA drag car, doesnt make it one And the second one was in my 87. I pulled up next to an STI, thinking my 5.0 auto would stand a chance. Once again, I was dead wrong. Tell yours!

First off, Ill be the first to admit my car is not at all fast. It sounds good with the cam and exhaust, but at the end of the day, its still a low compression Pontiac 350. (Someday Ill build a motor). Having said that, I don't think there is a time where I take it out for a long drive and some nut wants to race me. They even launch fast even though I don't acknowledge them. I'm no idiot though. Loosing is no fun so I let them take off.

Well, i am not all that fast (low 12's) but i can tell you it is hard to put power to the ground on the street, especially when doing the light to light thing. You need to find some good pavement to have a good race. I find this to be more of a deciding factor than actual power. I usually launch quicker than the rest but they start to catch up, especially if boosted.
I don't have any loses yet but not many races either (on the street). I am happy about beating an SRT-8 with 100 shot of nitrous and the guy with the SRT-10 won't even race me after a few side by side blasts. Oh, and the SRT-4's... nothin.

ive gotten in a few stoplight battles in my dd alero, its quite the sleeper but still somepeople wanna go at it - i usually let off at like 10 over the posted cause im not trying to get my license taken but i got beat big time by a friggin vw jetta but i dont feel too bad about it cause it sounded pretty hotted up but i have beat and srt4, cause i got an auto and they cant drive stick, but after i let off at 45 he blew by me - porsche turbo aint bad especially if its a mostly stock motor (bolt ons dont count for much) seeing how he's probably got more power than you, lighter weight, and rear engine for an incredible launch
heck i wouldnt be ashamed to lose to one in a mildly built 400 |
