If all goes well, tomorrow I will buy my first GTO. No, it's not what you think. It really is my first GTO. I ordered shortly after my 17th birthday in 1972 from J.O. Sisk Pontiac in Mt. Pleasant, TX. I sold it to a friend during a divorce about 15 years ago. He has only put a few 1000 miles on it in all that time. Tomorrow I get to buy it back from him.
It is a factory black 72, 400ci, 4 speed, posi, honeycombs, formula wheel, A/C, AM/8 track, buckets, and console. It's a survivor car pretty much. It has the original drive train. The heads have never been off. The clutch is getting done today for the first time. It has an HEI added by my friend but otherwise it's just like it rolled out, less a paint job. There are a lot of memories tied up in that car, a lot of firsts. I thought about getting another GTO a few times over the years, but that one was really the only one I wanted. Now it's coming home. My older sister had a 1970 silver with automatic and the dual gate shifter. My Dad had a 1971 Grand Prix, black on black with gold stripes and honeycombs. We had a couple of 65/66 Tempest 326 cars before I could drive. I guess my sister's 70 hooked me for good. |

Nice story Bandit. Il bet you cant wait to get it home. If memory serves, a black 72 may be a rare color for that year Goat. Post some pics when you geta chance.
And welcome to the forum. If you need tech advice or just wanna shoot the shi**, then you couldnt have come to a better place for Pontiacs. |

Yes, it cost me an extra $100 to get it black. I was shocked because at that time I had never heard of a car that didn't come in black. It was not in the budget. Because black was not standard in 1972, it arrived from the Atlanta factory with a Wilderness Green Endura front bumper and a quart of special black paint in the trunk. The Goat has about 110,000 on it now.
