I have a 69 Bonney with a vinyl top that has the normal rust below the rear window, I was wondering what the procedure is for removing the stainless trim covering the edge of the vinyl, and the window trim,,


also I was just looking at a thread in the forums on the nose piece on the bonnevilles, I am presently in the process of making a mold for one , and think I might just make a few extra,, if enough people are interested,, The fist mold I am making is modified to elimate the rubber gasket between the hood and nose, but could also make it available like origional,, anyone interested?? These will be heavy duty solid pieces like the origional, composit filled fiberglass, outer shell.. thick gellcoat, When I get the first one finished,, I will post a picture,,, but in the meantime I need some advise on how to get that trim off. without screwing it up Thanks Bill my blown 33 coupe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ijg2VXB25Lw

Tell us more about this nose piece that you're working on. What kind of time frame are you looking at? I've got a '69 Bonnie in the paint shop right now and would love to have a good nose for it.
Most of the original rubber parts are showing their age and the repro fiberglass parts available are poor at best.

At the present time I am restoring the nose on my own 69, bonny, it wasn't in very bad shape to begin with, just some shrinkage of the origional material,, I redid it , by extending the top edge that meets the hood, to eliminate the rubber gasket, and leaves a nice even reveal to the hood, that matches the hood to fender gaps,, looks much better than the ugly gasket, I still have a bit of work to do on the mold, bracing , and smoothing,, I am making the mold a 2 piece, so I will be able to fill in the back of the fiberglass facing with a solid rubber or plastic compound,, much like the origional,, a true replacement part, except with a glass facing,, I don't think I will be finished soon enough to have one ready before your car is painted ,, unless your painter is probably a month away from paint,, But if you guys think you might be interested in looking at it I will pick up the pace a bit,,
The reason I decided to do this is because I bought one of those flimsy fiberglass POS , at the cost of 230$ , and would have to completely redo the thing,, so the guy I got it from took it back,, Think there might be a market for some good replacement nose pieces,, also the rear bumper insert, havn't done anything with that yet,, Maybe I better get busy huh???? Don't know if you can tell anything about the nose in this picture,

I wouldn't have figured that you'd have 'em ready in time for my car, supposed to be done in 3 weeks. If you do get them done though, I'd take one because I know the rubber will crack again on mine even though he's fixing it now.
I don't think you'll get rich making '69 Pontiac noses but I'm sure you'd sell a few and maybe make enough $$$ to pay for your time and a little extra for a few cold ones.

On a completely different note- I'm about to buy a set of wheels for my car. Do you know the size and back space of your wheels and size of tires? Any issues with rubbing?

Have your painter save you enough paint to paint the nose piece,, I will get busy and try to get a couple done,, probably not in 3 weeks , but not much longer,,, I been looking for a substrate to use for a filler.. possably a pollyurethane epoxy, that will flex,, and still adhere to the glass good,, I am getting ready to repaint mine too ,, so this will get me motivated,,
The wheels are 17X8, with 235-35 fronts and 245-45 rears,, the tires are proxies and the wheels have a 4" backspace,, the car has been lowered about 2 inches all the way around,, and don't rub at all unless i hit a bump with the front wheels turned,and then not bad,, but I am aware of the problem and watch out for the bumps, avoiding the curb when parking is the problem,, just takes one time to really mess up a wheel, [ maybe the old curb feelers would help, ya think?:confused Thanks for the interest

EDIT,, I origionally redid my nose [ cars nose that is] with kittyhair , and it turned out great,, but the car was parked out in the hot sun last summer for a few days and being black,, the heat caused the filler to separate from the rubber under it , and chipped off,, so any kind of filler will come off . or crack,, I think a replacement is the only way to elimate the problem,, not one of Pontiacs better ideas for sure,, what was that stuff called?? endura or something like that?? HEY Goatless,, did you get your car back from the painter yet? I have been dragging my feet on the nose project,, but finally got back on it this week , I did away with rubber stuff completely, took the metal form that the rubber was molded to, and made a whole new nose piece from metal,, now I have to make the plug, and prep it for paint,, turned out pretty good, I will take some pictures and post them as soon as I get it finished,, Bill my 33 ford http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ijg2VXB25Lw

I was just wondering how you were coming along with the project. I just picked up my nose piece from the paint shop today. It looks geat right now but I KNOW it's going to crack. I told him not to spend too much time on it and that in time I'd bring him another- either something like yours or a better original. So yes, I'm still interested in seeing how your project turns out.

Thats a pretty solid looking longroof,, seems like I recal seeing some pictures of it painted,, did you 2 tone it? [ maybe I am thinking of another one] nice family cruzer,, it will pass every thing but a gas station , regular is up to 290 a gal here,, premium is 330, and all our gas comes from Alaska,, anyway,, thats a nice ride,, I would like to find a wagon like that, got too many toys now,,so says my wife,, but what could she possably know????
