6x-4 head on the driver side between the #1 spark plugs, beneath the n/d casting mark there is a threaded? plug in the head with what looks like a vacuum fitting on it . what is this, there seems to be no vac at the fitting! should it be taken out of the head and blocked off,or anything. what is the purpose of it?(drivers side head) thanks If I am not worrying about something,i will find somethin-LOL

I'd bet you are looking at the provision to mount a water temp sensor in the head. I don't know why it would have a vacuum fitting on the plug, sounds like someone put that in because it fit. I would just plug the hole and forget about it.

It`s an old EGR thermo-vacumn switch or TVS. It kept the EGR from operating till the water temp. got to the specified temp. It`s not gonna hurt anything unless you think it`s ugly. Then i`d use a pipe plug.

Another 6x head question. I have a 72 455 with 6x heads, how can I tell what year these heads are? My car is a 73 formula. Thanks.

.... Seeing as how somebody said "Hi, Jack!", I might as well respond with a dumb question-
In the example above, how do I know that's not January 22nd 1966? |

All it takes is $20 spent on Pete McCarthy's book to know pretty much all about Pontiac head ID. Oh, Hi Jack!

But what about the substance of my question- are some Pontiac date codes redundant between decades? |
