Default 70 GTO AC bracket

Silly question but should a December built 70 GTO with air conditioning have the aluminum front compressor bracket or the stamped steel one? If aluminum I need one - any out there? I have the steel one now. Thanks,
paul

Default A/C bracket

Here's a thread that is similar, but it doesn't give a specific answer to your question:

I have an aluminum one if you need it.. I bought it off ebay before I figured out the stamped steel was fine for my car

Look in the GTO restoration guide, I believe that the answer you need is in there. Great book for answering many questions, you should get a copy.

A '70 that early will have the cast aluminium bracket.

Ditto Tin Injun- aluminum at least until mid-year, as I recall.
All of my 1970's (3 with A/C) were built in late November- and all have the aluminum A/C bracket.

Default Bracket

I have two 1970 Pontiac GTO's, both built at the pontiac, mi plant.

The convertible was built in February (02C), has the aluminum bracket. The hardtop was built second week of March (03B), has the stamped steel bracket.

I'm sure the convertible's bracket is original, less sure about the hardtop's... but if its original that provides a pretty tight window, at least for the Pontiac plant.

While on this subject, would the type of bracket make a difference in the belt length? My car currently had a '69 motor in it with '69 accessory brackets. I have replaced most of the brackets with '70 brackets but not the pulleys. I currently have the aluminum front bracket on. Here's a page from the assembly manual.

PontiacMark,
The aluminum A/C bracket off my '69 and '70 are the same. Not sure about the pulleys.
