Great Loss to Pontiac community - Dave Johnson
Dave Johnson passed away this morning. He fought a long battle with non- hodgkin's lymphoma.
He was a real prince of men. |

Very sorry to hear this terrible news about Dave, a great loss indeed.
 My prayers and sincere condolences go out to his family and friends. The White Warrior will certainly live on forever in the hearts and minds of the true Pontiac faithful.

Damn!
I had no idea he was that ill. I just shipped a '73 Delco AM/FM Stereo radio to him last month that he purchased from me. My condolences to his family and close friends.

Joe,im am so sad to hear it.I talked to Rick last week and he thought he was doing OK.A great man and a tribute to our hobby.Norwalk wont be the same without him.Tom

He just had the "White Warrior" out at Rte. 66 a week or two ago for an event, didn't he? I thought I saw a picture of the car on another board talking about the event?

So sad indeed Joe. I only met and knew Dave personally the last couple of years at Norwalk running NSS. He told me last year he had some health problems. He will be sorely missed....along with White Warrior. I was just communicating with him last week or so..!! He never said a word. First Class man.... My condolences to his family and friends....

I first met "The Super Stock" guys through Rick Johnson and his "No Sponsor" car. This is when I was helping Jim Brady on his 64 GTO.
Rick Johnson introduced me to Bill Banks who ran the "Boppin Bear" 64 GTO (who later died of cancer). Rick also was doing work for Joe Zajac, Dave Johnson, and other pontiac racers at the time. I met Dave Johnson for the first time at one of the Norwalk events back when the "Super Stock" guys would have their buddies from the Mopar and Chebby camps join them to put on a show at the Norwalk event. Lots of those car showed up back then. Dave Johnson was involved, with others, in trying to repop the old bathtub intakes and I remember the first batch of intakes they made. This allowed them to run more competitively with the mopar and chebby dual quad stuff vs using the old low rise type intakes. At one point, Joe and Dave asked me for an opinion on how to make the basic "bathtub" better and still look somewhat like the original piece. I gave then some suggestions and the next year they had created some much newer design parts when I saw them at Norwalk. They had some fuel distribution questions so I helped them a little bit more on the deal and later became good friends working with Randy Williams and Joe Zajac on the later intakes. Dave always had one of the fastest cars out there but traditional would carry extra weight to keep the racing vs the "big cars" close for the fans. I never saw him complain about that deal or any other deal as long as I was around him. I knew he was sick but never asked for specifics. He was sick for a period of time (like Randy Williams) so I was pulling for him to beat the cancer even though Randy tried and failed in his attempt. Dave's passing on does not surprise me in some ways but I just wish he could have made a few more trip to Norwalk to be with his friends in the pontiac community. He recently posted on the board about his "guts ram" dual 4 bbl 4 cylinder project that he was working on. We will all pass on to a better place at some point. It is not how you died but how you lived. Dave lived a great life while he was with us in the pontiac community. JMO RIP my friend Tom Vaught

The last time i had seen Dave was at Cordova about 3 years ago. The White Warrior is my alltime favorite. Sorry, to hear about him.
That was a shocker to me as well, 60man. |

I’am sorry to hear this… I bought some SD parts from him some years ago, real good to deal with.... He told me that he visited Iceland few times, during the time that the US naval base was here.
I always enjoyed watching the white warrior race… Also enjoyed his posts and emails, truly a great loss… My condolences He will be remembered. |

Opportunities missed, opportunities missed. I have one more regret to add to my life...
Dave and I never met in person, but I think we would have been friends. We've exchanged emails over the past year as I try to get back in the Pontiac saddle with my own 63 Tempest projects. He helped my learning curve a lot, to say the least. I so wish I took the time to meet and thank him in person for all his help. I so wish we had the opportunity to line up at the start line together, 2 men who not only share the same name and style car, but passion as well. It would have made for some good times. I'm going to sign my posts after today (outside of this thread) in his honor. I hope that sits well with those who knew him personally. Godspeed, Dave Johnson! |
