I wanted to put 3' exhaust on the Safari as cheap as possible and this is how I did it. Now keep in mind, I have my own welder and chop saw, so that made it easier.
- used 2nd gen. Firebird ceramic coated headers (of unknown origin) from the Pontiac Heaven swap meet in Pheonix, AZ in 2007 $80 ( yep that's right!) - 2) sets of Headman header extensions (Summit) $58 - Summit universal 3" 'X' pipe kit $90 - 2) Hooker Aero chamber mufflers (Summit) $120 - 3" tail pipes fabricated at Antioch muffler/brake $140 - 3" clamps from local swap meet $10 - I used some stock hangers from the wagon in combination with some sedan stock hangers from the same era to hang the exhaust. Total............$498 not bad for a complete exhaust system on a wagon nobody makes one for! Full view showing the complete system: ![]() ![]() Showing the tailpipes: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hey GV455..........I thought I'd get your attention!
I love the way it sounds! It's quiet enough at cruising speeds, because it has my wife's approval.............until I get on it...........then it's and eye opener to say the least! The Hooker Aero chambers have a nice low tone to them. I am completely sold on this system because it's quiet enough at cruising and idle, but loud enough at half to full throttle to let you know what's up. I even have 3 bolt flanges at the back of the mufflers to remove the tailpipes when I replace the 2.73 one legger with a 3.23 or 3.42 limited slip unit. I also have a set of 6X-8 heads ready to go on next, as soon as I can pick out a cam that would work best with this 5000 lb. load! Any tips would be helpful of course! I'll have to take a look where Chippewa Falls is because I'm heading up north of Wausau next weekend with it. Perhaps I could stop on by and we could do some bench racing BIG Pontiac style!!

Nice.
The 3" system and especially the wagon. I can appreciate the work that went into that exhaust.

Very Cool Ron. In case anyone here is wondering, Ron is a genius with cars. IF there is a way to make it run better, faster, stronger, Ron will find it and do it.

It's a build in progress. I'll be changing parts as I go because my next focus is my 72 Lemans wagon. I will be putting a set of 6X-8 heads and performer intake on in a month or so. At that point I was thinking of a cam change. Since it's a big car, I was leaning towards a rhodes lifter direction. Eventually, before winter, I'll get to changing the rear end to the 3.23 or 3.42. Of course, a 10" stall would have to get in at some point. Did you get the "factory lightweight" bumpers on you car yet?! Gotta get your GV in the 12's and represent the big car guys!!

Ron,
Nice job on fabbing the exhaust, and beautiful wagon . My 4500# GP went 13.54 @ 101 corrected @ Pontiac Heaven in 2006, w/2:93 gearing and using Rhoads lifters. The specs are in the Street Topic Sticky. Les
