Default 462 Hp from Pontiac 383!!!!!

We made 462 hp at 6000 rpm and 436 ft lbs of tq at 4300 rpm. The tq was above 390 ft lbs the whole pass!! We used a Tomahawk. I think it would have made more tq with a RPM. But the motor was going in my 69 Firebird. It made all this power with NO SPACER. Although the 770 Street Avenger carb got rich above 5400 rpm. I believe the 462 hp is the tip of the iceberg if we had a better carb.

Overall I am very pleased with the power it made. Not bad for a cast iron headed pump gas motor. Almost 1.25 per cubic inch! ALMOST! LOL

What will a race 383 do??? We will find out!

Dave Anderson will be posting pics AND graphs.

Be Cool,
Ace

When I saw this, I thought maybe this was the engine that was going into the project Tempest on that show on Spike-TV (the one that Lou hosts).

Ken,

Very impressive figures....and yet, I am curious as to why you selected a camshaft with 8° additional exhaust duration when your heads have a 83.18% flow differential??? Were you monitoring EGT's during your dyno pulls???

Those heads Makes me feel good about my own headwork. My hand ported 6X-4's with a 1.660" exhaust valve (and 5 angle valve job) flowed 210 cfm @ .600" lift @ 28 in/H20 with an 87.5% flow differential...Robert

Default 462 HP...

Nice job Ace, i knew you could do it, i guess there will be a lot of those stroked 350's out there now.

I wonder what it would do with one of Dude's blowers on it? Thanks for the info on this one.

Ken neat build. I like the scraper with the holes.

Awesome flow numbers for little valves.I dare you to try a single pattern cam to compare or even a reverse split that worked well in my RAIV motor.

Thumbs up Don't toss those old 350 blocks.....

.....because as you can see they are definitely a great base for building some big power.

Nice work Ken, as always.

Please keep us updated on how it runs in your '69 Firebird.

Bart

yeah I saw that too, he's promising a 326 stroker motor, that'd be interesting, judging from the progress with the 350 stroker, it's definitely possible.

Z Code I did not design the cam. David Crower did. I kinda wondered why the cam was so big. But I ain't sayin no to a free billet cam!! LOL!!!

And to the rest of ya all thanx. I knew this would make for a decent combo. I even have the cam in a reg hydraulic flat tappet version on a 108 lobe center! Once again thanx guys. It should be in the Sept or Oct issue of HPP.

Be Cool,
Ace

Congratulations Dude!!! I guess you passed my 425 guess(and by quite a bit), you should be proud. I knew there was a reason I didn't trash that old 350 block. Is Dave at SD going to offer these heads? -Jim

Much better than you could do with FACTORY iron head SBC. Who says the 350P cant compete against the 350C!

Jim it was Daves idea for the cast iron heads. We were gonna use Aluminum D-Ports. But the manufactureres were unreasonable(and it would have gotten them good press). So Dave said he can make a cast iron head work just as good. He has this program already in the CNC. And is ready to do more!

As I said there is more potential there! I have complete rotating assemblies in stock! Many different versions. And will have many of the short blocks ready to go in STOCK!

Maybe I should call myself the King of small inch Pontiacs!! LOL!!!

Be Cool,
Ace

With a small bore and kinda long stroke. I would like to see how it would perform (Dyno versa track testing) with a stock length Pontiac rod.

Ok let the scientific reasoning begin.

FWIW Dyno sims dont show any advantage of rod change on this one as far as the 2 rod sizes mentioned. Possibly real short rod or extra long might show but have my doubts. Maybe I'll play some with the "dyno game" later.

Way to go Ace! those are some very nice numbers.

My dyno program thinks the stock stroke 350 I'm planning will make around 375-380 horses with a conservative cam. I'm still quite skeptical of this, but seeing your results gives me hope that it'll be close.
