All 4 finger tips starting tingling after 2 hr's.
Had to give it up after 3. About 11.30 pm. Was up to 1st joints.
Still tingling to the 1st jt this morning along with tumb tip.
Just tips now. Using the key board is unpleasent.

Tell your doctor to order a EMG test. It could be carpal tunnel.

I agree. Had C T surgery 21 years ago. Fixed it. Now its Arther

The EMG can tell if it is all peripheral(lower arm) or some from your neck also. Carpal Tunnel is the median nerve which supplies sensation to first three fingers(thumb is #1) getting compressed near the wrist as there is a fibrous band that keeps your tnedons together there and they squeeze the nerve.

My EMG was sticking needles in your arm then like hooking them to the lawn mower spark plug wire!

I agree with Skip, EMG's hurt. After my accident they were searching for nerves to use for graphting. It's simple, plung an accupuncture needle into a muscle/nerve, plung one more down stream, and send electricity through it!

I had to limt my time while porting on my heads. The vibration will play havac on your nerves. I agree if it lasted all night, I would definitely ask a doctor to check it out. Sorry to hear the trouble! JD

Had the same deal myself after just porting my own heads for the first time...went away after a few hours though. It's the vibration from the tool that does it, not the motion. Rubber gloves may help, but if you do this for a living, probably not. I've had one of those electromotive conductor tests performed and they are no fun at all. Had it done on my lower back and legs and the jolt is quite painfull, especially when they hit a nerve that's pinched.

Some die grinders are better about this than others,makita makes a nice variable speed grinder that has a special internal drive mechanism that reduces the shock felt while using it and helps the internal gears live longer,IMO it's the die grinder of choice.

I find the air powered die grinders are much harder on the hands and wrists when doing lots of grinding,especially with those "spoon" throttle controls.

I wont do any porting with air die grinders myself,not unless it's extremely minimal and quick.

Yea, I was going to say the same thing. Possibly time to replace the die grinder, might even be the burr that is causing additional vibration. Last, I sometimes get relief by using a taller stool to sit on while grinding which lowers my arms and changes the wrist angle.

also if you port at one location ( like a work bench ) get a support hanger for the tool ( its a spring loaded cable that hooks to the ceiling) to help take some of the weight of the tool off your lower arms thus reducing your arm strain . I was having the sympoms you where having till I did this and also changing the motor unit out to one that doesn't vibrate ( like a foredom or milwaukee) will help also and keep the bit lubricated !!

Sore as all get out sometimes.

Took several beer...ah...mini breaks
Not near as bad today. Some minor tingling, mostly sore joints.
Finish up early tonight, then maybe get back to my car...only 2 days/5 nights till Norwalk.
Still need to repair roof and paint dash so windshield can be installed next week

EMG. No thank you! I'll wait on that one...

Good idea supporting the tool.
Air hose is draped over the rafter, and i use a workmate to hold the part.
That way i can circle/more around if needed.
Also have a drop cloth for the shavings, but the stuff still gets everywhere

Really plan on quiting after these 3...no 7 vehicles...H.T.F did that happen!

I had the tingling also, turned out to be cervical stenosis (bone spur in the neck). Really acts up when I'm using any air tools. Neck traction & PT helped quite a bit but seems to come & go. Certain movements of my head shoots the pain down my arm into the fingers. Surgery to repair goes through the front of throat to spine. No hurry for that, I can tell you! Eventually will have to be done! Hope it's not what you have. Dave K.

ponsho shop I hook a shop vac to the opposite side of the port I am chewing up to pull the filings thru , it keeps the garage floor clean I can se what I am doing and no rusty boogers in the morning either . the device is called a tool balancer its from MSC ( they are on the internet ) they are about $150 but it allows you to work more comfortably

Yeah, the tingling is not nice. I found the electric worse than the air grinders. I came up with a fix that allowed me to live with it. I got some 1" thick sponge rubber sheet & wrapped it around the grinder, taped it in place & made a thick rubber 'glove' out of it. Works very well.
