It's intersting to see that the only sythentic oil that appears to have zinc is Valvoline. I wonder if the formulation of synthetic oil is different enough that the manufacturers of it feel it isn't necessary?

Brad-Penn racing semisynthetic has the same level of ZDPP as it did back in the early 80s and before. They are the old Kendall GT green oil guys updated for the new century. Google Brad Penn and read all about it. Cheap too!

They didn't show any "off road use only, racing oils". I was a little disappointed. I use the Valvoline 20w-50 "off road use only, racing synthetic." I noticed a power increase immediately.

But I was surprised at the Rotella results.

I think that the data presented is outdated, at least as far as zinc content. Guessing that the article is over two years old. Within the last six months to a year just about all the oil companies have either removed zinc or cut back in zinc content substantially due to requirements of the EPA. My understand is that zinc hurts the efficiency of smog control equipment. Much like the new diesel fuels has had most of the sulfur removed. Sulfur is need in diesel fuel for extra lubrication.

Heres what product info I got for the Valvoline 20w50, NSL (Not street legal), synthetic, racing oil, that I'm using. I see the zinc is there but not in the quantity as in the 1st post.

What creates ash in the oil?

Very true. I use and sell the Brad Penn oil, it is the best buy in a true racing oil. Very popular with guys running alcohol, because of not "milking up" like many oils do. I've been selling about 10 cases a week, going tomorrow to pick up another 30 cases. I get 40.00 per case if anyone is interested.

The Castrol GTX 10W30 is under 600 ppm of Zinc. The list must be dated by quite some time so I would be careful using its numbers.
