Default The same old question... how much hp do you think...?

462cid
11.0:1
Cam = @ 0.050 244/256 and 0.510/0.540
E-heads (out of the box)
RPM manifold (out of the box)
800cfm Q-jet w/appropriate mods per Cliff's book
Headers = 2.00 x 3.5
X-pipe 3in exh.
4-spd

What's your best guess for flywheel and at the rear wheels? It should be put together here in the next month or so and I will post what it really turned out to be.

Thanks,

Solid or hyd flat tappet cam? 1.5 ratio rockers?
Rear gear and tires? Upgraded your driveshaft?
72 cc chamber heads? Should net around 11.8 to 1. 85cc would be around 10.4 to 1 with a 0 deck.
Stock water pump, power steering, AC?

Ooops...
  • Solid lifter
  • 2.73 rear gears and 17" rim and if I remember right the tire hight is 25" (rims and tires seen below)
  • Stock rear and drive line
  • 1.5 rockers
  • 72cc heads (I was taking a guess at the compression so if you say 11.8 I believe you)
  • Stock water pump and power steering is the only acc.
Thanks,

Don't know, I didn't pick it. The cam was suggested to me by someone that's into Pontiac's and knows more than I do so I believe them. The cam card isn't in front of me so we will just say that I remembered it correctly. It's a #10.

I will guess that your gonna spatter 4 gear parts all over the pavement as soon as you fire that puppy up!.........seriously?...I wouldn't put a sticky tire under it........whats with the 2.73 cogs? is it going to be some kind of road racing machine?........with 12 to 1, eheads and a good cam you should have no problem making 500 hp....

LOL! As far as the tranny goes it worked just fine with the old combo and it was 475-500hp and I'm sure the torque with this cam will be about the same, well over 500ftlbs that is. I don't run the thing on the drag strip and I'm not one to go around dropping the clutch but I do floor it for sure. With the old cam (Crower # 60243) it would well over 150mph. On paper it should do 170mph at 6,000rpm but I can't say I'll try that though.

It's intended to be a "Pro-Touring" car I guess. There was no name for them when me and my buddies started dreaming about a car like this back in 1984 when my friend Chris bought it (this car) from the second owner. All we knew was that it wouldn't bury the 160mph speedo and that was just flat WRONG! We were 19yrs old at the time and invincible. At the time it would run out about 140mph at 6,000rpm. Back in 1993 the was given to me by my other friend Kevin who had bought it in the mean time. He got it in 1986 and it spun the rod bearings in it so it sat from 1986 until 2004 when I finally got the money to start on it. I intend to put a 5-spd in it as soon as I get the cash. For now it's just a matter of getting it as close as I can to what I want and still drive it in the mean time.

No other guesses? I thought it would be fun to see what you guys guess and then we will see what the dyno (picture below) will say. It's not a real big deal to me what it make because I'm sure it will be more than enough to get me in trouble.

517hp @ 6,000rpm's and 525tq @ 4500rpm's give or take a point. uncap those headers and it will jump up to 546Hp and 539tq, by the way, 400 going into my formula tomorrow with all kinds of upgrades, looks so beautiful on the engine stand, i should be at 305hp and 398tq, not bad for a hair lip

Not sure why there are so few guesses on this one, most of the time everyone and their dog jumps in to make a guess.

517hp is about what my DynoSim told me also so that will be my guess too. So as a rough guess with a manual tranny that should be about 444hp at the rear wheels.

That's cool that you got the engine going into the bird. I can't wait to see it on the road!

Any projections on how the car (in picture below) would perform 0-60, 1/4 mile, and top speed if it doesn't break as predicted above?

1974 TA
4-spd (original)
2.73 final drive
25in dia tire (seen below)

I would guess with all the hp, torque and highway gearing that 170 mph is where you are headed.

One thing I'd seriously consider would be to lower the front suspension by at least by a couple of inches.

Any top-speeed runs above 120 MPH would be a lot less hairy if the front end were down lower.

Lowering it some would keep it from plowing through the air and reduce any tendancy to lift the front of the car at speed.

Default lower front

I don't think my car will run much above 120 with the 4:11 rear end.
But, lowering the front end a bit makes sense.
I changed the original Endura front end for fiberglass. The original needed a lot of work from a botched repair due to an old front end accident.
Later, I changed the original heads to alluminum and the cast intake for an alluminum RA-IV.
I don't know the total weight reduction with these three change outs, but it is significant.
My car now clearly sets higher in the front than before.
