I ordered a new reproduction 67 GTO rear bumper from Tamraz Parts Warehouse. This bumper is a new part from Dynacorn. There are blemishes on this part that are part of the manufacturing process. Best to find an original to be replated.

Here is my email to Tamraz after inspecting the bumper:

Thank you for taking the time to speak to me on the phone today. This is regarding the brand new reproduction 67 GTO rear bumper I bought on ebay item 260141090616. Your invoice # 175830. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...141090616&rd=1

Attached are photos of the 67 GTO rear bumper I received today via UPS ground tracking # 1ZE610060347108300. The box was in good shape and there was no shipping damage.

The problem I have with this bumper is a manufacturer defect. There are two blemishes in the bumper that appear to be die marks from the stamping of this item. The exterior finish of the bumper was not manufactured in a proper way. The chrome finish is fine and the appearance of the bumper is fine, however these two blemishes are obvious to the naked eye and are in a highly visible location on the left side of the bumper. The blemishes are clearly visible in most of these photos and I placed tape next to them in the final three shots.

This bumper is not suitable for any show car application.

I would like you to review the photos and replace this bumper with another one. I still want a brand new bumper however if the others in your invetory are similar to this one, I would like to request a full refund on this item.

Please respond at your earliest convenience. I fully expect this to be resolved to my satisfaction in the spirit of good customer service on the part of Tamraz's Parts Discount Warehouse, Inc.

Hi John,
We have checked our inventory and have found that none of the bumpers are suitable for your car. These are not qualified to be show quality. They all seem to have the same blems, so obviously, the dimples are in the mold. We will gladly refund you in full.
Another alternative would be to have your cores rechromed. We have a local rechroming service that does excellent work. They will take your cores and straighten, strip and chrome your bumpers. The cost for each bumper is $395.95.

Thanks for posting that. I've got some Dynacorn Int. parts still in boxes, that I guess I should get out and inspect.
Certainly can't fault the customer service you're getting from the retailer.

I bought a Dynacorn bumper for the 67 when it first came out, I guess Im one of the lucky ones as there are no blemishes on mine.

looks like they may have had scrap metal in the dies when they stamped them. this happens pretty regularly, but quality control should have caught it. sounds like there not all that way though. they should sort them out and sell these at a reduced cost. as some guys wouldn't care about a few blems.

I sent the front and rear bumpers from my 66 LeMans to Northstar Plating in MN (your neck of the woods) Mine were in good shape to start, but the came back perfect with a lifetime warranty. Maybe you should check them out. Also, if you use yours, you know they will fit! Checkout their web site for details.

I know about Northstar plating. They are very good and you should have no problems with your bumper. Their current turnaround time is 18 weeks however.

My problem is I didn't even have a good core to send in. (rusty) so I was hoping to get a repop ready to go for $380. Maybe I'll try later after they fix the blem issue. It appears all the current stock at Tamraz are the same but mitchgto got a good one.

Just wanted to get the word out in case anyone was thinking about buying one of these.

Also I have used Dynacorn sheetmetal with good success and quality parts.

It's a real shame, that brand new reproduction parts have "built-in" defects. I know those '67 GTO rear bumpers have been hard to find for a long time. & most original cores are so rusted & damaged that it's impossible to get them redone. But the person in-charge of making the new ones should have never let those defects pass by quality control. They should have been pulled prior to chroming & either re-worked or scrapped.

I know its a long shot but I would be willing to try one of these before its sent back and see if it can be pressed straight.Youve got a 50-50 shot at the chrome staying intact.

The problem with ALL of the reproduction bumpers is the middle step, or polishing of the bumper before the actual plating. The companies that are doing these bumpers are also doing factory bumpers for brand new 2007-8 model vehicles. When the vendor sends one back and complains of bad workmanship, they don't understand because the bumper for the older car is as good of quality as the one they are producing for the new vechiles and they are getting no complaints from the new car manufactures.

You simply can't expect to pay $300 or less for a show quality bumper. The metal itself may be great, and the chrome may be great, but the polishing in between leaves flaws that they great chrome just exaggerates. For those needing a 'show' quality bumper you will always have to pay 'show' quality prices to have them polished and plated by perfectionists. As we know, this costs money. I've known many folks that couldn't find a good core to actually buy a new reproduction and then spend another $600 to $1000 to get a show quality bumper. The results were outstanding. It seems you will always get what you pay for.

I have a 67 Gto rear dyna bumper and it fit pretty nice I did have to do a minor tweak to it so the rear body line was not bowed looking as much but overall happy. My car is very nice but not a "show" car. I am pleased for 300 ish bucks

Now my bumpers for my 65 convert are another story they are not rusty or bent but I need a good plater that will not only accept my bumpers and do a class act job but also send me my actual bumpers back. That is the problem I am having too many stories out there

I have super cores as well as my back tail panel pieces virtually no pits and to send them out of my hands scares the crap out of me hoping I will actually get my pieces back and not someone elses.

Can a bumper be straightened at home?

I have one that is straight to point that it needs to come in a little on both corners.

Was replated and didnt send back (mistake) so now its past time limit.

Bought from The Parts Place and as much as I spent with them on this last car they should have done the right thing on this bumper (exchange it) but wouldnt.

You think a frame machine would straighten it without screwing the finish up? Hooking the chains through tail light openings,maybe? Heavy padding.

I have access to a machine.

Yup that is how I did it but seeing how you need to squeeze the bumper you will have just a little fun with that one.

I bet if you had a tie down strap a fat one for like securing a car you could rap it around the pumper and then hook it together with a come along and tighten the strap to squeeze the bumper tighter hopefully not bowing it at the same time
