Car is a legit RA III/HO, M21 Muncie 4 speed ,3:90 posi conv, 1 of 87 Firebird RA III/HO 4 speed convertibles built in 69.

I am pretty new to FGF's myself so I don't know a great deal about them but I am very curious how this car actually came from the factory. It shows the 400 RA option but why didn't it have the ram air pans? or did it? Looks like it came with a HD air cleaner, and was it a twin snorkle or was that added as a dealer option or something? thanks, I have a lot to learn.
I hope we get to see a photo of the finished car.

I have seen several of these cars back in the early 80 's in the Toronto area. They were all gold . Some of them had the leather interior like this car . What color is yours and what is instant air?

I am so disgusted at myself as I read this post. I could have bought one about 5-6 years ago in Hemmings and delayed a bit and lost out. Man I could kick myself. I really wanted the car but had the Bonnie Convert and the Goat and was considering whether I needed a third car (which I didn't - but man it would have been nice!)

Comanche Firebirds were all minimum standard 400 auto or stick cars ordered from the factory with the rare gold leather interior ,instant air, dual vanity mirrors, quick ratio steering ,disc brakes, remote trunk release, custom seat belts,Tilt steering column,Rally II wheels, Rally guage cluster,Koni shocks,HD aircleaner and radiator. All hardtop Comanches were ordered with white vinyl tops, convertible with white tops

The cars left the factory in various colors this car was expresso brown, gold leather interior and white convertible top.

At Grant Hamilton's dealership cars were masked off and painted an exclusive dark tawny gold (similar to 1970 Granada Gold) the tail panels were painted white, white stripes were applied around fake vents on front fenders, all 400 emblems on side of hood scoops and decklid were replaced with diecast chrome Comanche emblems.400 hood inserts were removed and chrome plated, hood pins installed, Marchal fog lamps installed in grills along with quartz high beam headlights and finally Pirelli tires were installed.

Needless to say, these were very special cars designed by Grant Hamiliton to be high end Grand Touring Performance Cars

looks like I may have the 400 hood from one of those cars on mine...when I "cloned" my 350 to a 400 , I bought a used 400 hood from Canada, it was in NB...it had the chrome hood scoops on it and welded up pin holes from hood pins...it was blue ,but wasnt original paint....had some other paint under it...just couldnt tell excactly what it was ,seemed like areas had two different colors here and there.....

and I didnt even know theese cars existed! Interesting...

Bjorn, are the other layers still under the red?

Maybe you should grab your sander and dig down a ways, see if you strike..... gold!

I know someone who is just finishing up the resto on a Commanche. This one came from Toronto. I'll see if I can get some pics.

I don't believe it is, but you never know. When I see him I'll ask.
