Default Storing Spray Cans

I haven't posted in a while but remembered there was something I wanted to share with everyone. It's a little lesson on storing spray cans of paint or other chemicals. We had just finished painting my 79 TA with White Pearl and I had it stored in the garage. Now I usually have paint cans on shelves all over the garage. But I had recently bought a new storage cabinet and had just put all the paint from around the shop into the cabinet. Well, I come out one morning and there is a strong smell of paint in the garage. So I opened the cabinet and there it was. The top had come unseamed on a new can of BLACK and had completely covered the inside of the cabinet. I was a mess. My car is less than three feet from this cabinet but the cabinet contained all the paint. This could have been a disaster. Just wanted to pass this along. You never know when a spray can is gonna let go.

Good tip. Never heard of a paint can doing that on it's own. I'll be moving mine tomorrow.

A true "spray bomb".

I have never heard of that! Interesting, I'll be moving my spray "bombs" in the morning. Thanks for posting the warning.

Yeah, It happened to me too. The only one that let go was a brand new can. I got lucky with my car also.

In my case it's totally opposite. I left a brand new can in my unheated garage which froze causing the can to rupture. Big mistake.

Garage was not hot. It was a new can also. I have been in stores and have seen the same thing where it has covered the shelf and everything around it. Maybe even a customer or two.
