Default Stock intake or HSD

I need an intake to fit under the shaker hood. I have a 1970 stock intake, a Torker I, and a Holley Street Dominator. Any comments on which one to use on a street / strip Firebird, 462, 6X-8 heads, Ultradyne 288/296 cam, Ruggles Q-jet, Headers, TH400 and 3.42 gears? Thanks........

Torker I :unshroud the plenum opening to flow the Spreadbore to the port roofs.
That ought be a great Street/Strip intake.

I suspect all 3 are good Dyno intakes.

Are you guys serious? I wasn't giving the Torker any thought at all. I have visited several websites; everyone trashes the Torker. Why would it be better than the stock or Holley? Thanks.......

HSD is what Herb Adams used in all of his TA Cars.

The HSD will have alot better air flow balance than the T1,why the SS racers that did run the T1 cut and welded two together.Longer narrow runners vs shorter square runners just aren't going to be the same. A T 2 can fit the Shaker also.

T-1 works better with a Qjet than the HSD, since you mention you are using a 'Q'. But with your combo, I wouldn't like either of those intakes.

My old 455 with stock 6X-4 heads and a Isky 292 mega cam ran far better with the HSD than the TKI. I was using a 3310 carb at the time but the HSD was far more responsive on my 78 T/A with a TH350, vega converter and 3.73 gears. The TKI wasn't even on my car a week when I switched back. A stouter motor may have been the opposite but...

Thanks for the offer Dragncar but the intake is not for sale. Seems like people have thier favorite intake for different reasons. Looks like a 50/50 split on which intake is better. I'm just trying to figure out which one to use for my combination. The performer I have on the car now doesn't perform well above about 4500 rpm. I may be having fuel delivery problems and switching the intake is an easy experiment to help find out if the problem is fuel or air. I just don't want the "new" intake to be worse than the performer intake and add confusion in the troubleshooting process. I am hoping the performance after the intake swap will lead me to the root of the problem. Thanks again, any more advice?

The performer on your engine size is a no go, you are better off with the factory cast iron intake. The performer just will not flow with the factory stuff unless it's modified.

The performer rpm intake will support over 600 hp, the holley intake also is much better then the performer. Also check the intakes ace brewer sells. Get rid of the performer, it's holding that big engine back.

Hmmm,in the early 90's,i ran a 67' lemans,400 with performer intake with a MILD cam, stock #62 heads that would zip to 5700-5800 rpm's no problem, actually thats where it ran its best et's.I think it ran 7.8's in the 1/8th mile.

We dyno'd a Torker 1 intake against my iron intake. No spacers were used on either intake, and we used my 1977 Pontiac q-jet for both pulls. The engine was a 455 cid, 247/254/108 cam, 670 heads (mildly ported). On back to back pulls the iron intake was 57hp stronger than the Torker I........yep, I couldn't believe it either!......Cliff

Thanks Cliff, dyno comparisons are hard to argue with. Anyone have a dyno or time slip comparison between a stock intake and the Holley? All of you are a big help, thanks again...........
