I am restoring a 68 Tempest convertible for a customer. And he (or we) are having a hard time picking a blue for the car. The car was originaly Green. He does not want it back that color. So we were wondering if you guys would give us your apinion on it.
But I want to also say that I dont want to make anyone mad or make anyone think I do not like their color of car either. We like them both and thats way we are having the hard time with it. And I like the Green that is on it. OK! We are looking at Alpine Blue and Meridian Turquoise. We were also looking at Aleutian Blue but thought it had to much silver in it. And we are not set on the top color either white or Black. Thinking more of black though. So if any of you have some good pictures of those 2 colors. or would like to add what you would do we would love to see them and hear them. Thanks Shannon Anderson

My 68 Tempest custom Convertible came from the factory as Alpine Blue with a blue interior and Ivory White top.
Now it is a shade lighter than alpine blue, has a white/black interior and a bright white top. see avatar. |

Alpine blue with a white top is nice. Don't know what the color of the interior is but blue or white looks sharp. White more as it would pick up the top. Good luck in your choices.
Go to the ultimate gto web site and you can search for cars by color and get a real good idea. |

There is a guy that posted a bunch of pics of his meridian turqoise 68 convertible. Do a search for the color and you should find it. I don't have the link anymore.

I have been on that site. And have looked at both colors. And like them both. I like the Alpine Blue with a White top. and with white interior. BUT! He has already done his interior in black. But I still like the white top. And there is also the trouble of keeping it clean. But it is not my car.

The ultimate GTO site has a very nice Meridian Turquoise car with white interior and white top that was later featured in HPP. You can see the car on both websites.
The trouble with pictures of the Meridian Turquoise cars is that almost every camera will show it differently based on light conditions, camera, etc. Sometimes looks bluish, sometimes more green. It's nice color though, if I do say so myself.

All I can add is that if changing colors stick to factory available colors if possible, cars look "right".

FWIW, I thank god no one changed my parchment (or pearl) interior to black. Seats get hot enough w/ the top down, "black interior in a vert should be illegal" (Quoted from Ron aka jegstek) LOL!!! I think he's right
But obviously its His car and he can do what he wishes. BTW both colors are sharp! Best of luck Howard

IMO the Meridian Turquose gets my vote, but only by a slim margin since they are both nice colors.
![]() Hey Shannon2356. Are you the fellow that came out and picked up a 68 Executive from me a couple of years ago???

Thanks everyone for voting And a ?? about the Turquoise. I had my paint suppler mix up both colors for us. and the Turquoise looks like it has a lot of green to it. But when you see pictures of them on here. They look more blue then green. How does this color look in person out in the sun? Can you see the green tint in it? Thanks Shannon

Thanks Greg! And thats what I was thinking too. I think you can see more of the green in it. When the color is in the shade. And it's more blue in the sun.
The pictures of your car. Do not match the color on the car with the white top at all in the picture. But they are both the same color. I think we are going to go with the Alpine blue and with a black top. We are installing a GTO hood. And were going to paint the scoops black. I noticed that they are body color on the white Mer. Turq. blue car. The scoops dont show up as much that way. Thanks everone for the help and opion. Shannon

Only the Judges (and maybe any other Ram Air cars?) had the black scoops from the factory but a lot of people will paint them black for the same reason you're going to. I don't think any '68s had black scoops from the factory.
Here's one more Meridian car I ran across on eBay for good measure. You can't go wrong with the Alpine though. I like all of the medium to light blue metallics.

This is the web site for orginal paint available for cars by year. Found by searching the PY forums. If you stay with a 1968 GTO or LeMans paint color you will be able to enter top rated car show in the restored or alter restored group even if it is not the orginal color otherwise, you'll be always in the modified group which is large and very competitive. Good Luck |
