Default 63 Tempest Bellhousing

I just bought a 63 Tempest. It needs a motor and trans. I already have a 64 model 389 and a Borg and Warner T-10 4 Speed trans. I know I would have to do a rear end swap but what I was really wanting to know is if this cars original 3 speed manual shift bellhousing would work with the 4 speed trans and the 64 389 engine. Thanks for any help.

I transaxle bellhousing will not work with a front monted trans. If you are going to put a 4speed trans on the engine you will need a bellhousing.Tom

the 64 389 engine and trans should work, you might need a clucth fork from the 63 to work with the tempest linkage.Tom

So changing the ropeshaft today on my new project as it was broke, as expected, and discovered the bellhousing was complete. What I mean is on my other car the housing was cut to allow the ropeshaft to pass into the housing. Looking at the directions in the book to replace this shaft would have been a day or so. Almost remove the trans out of the car! So I cut the housing and gave it a 3/4 slice to pass the shaft, complete job done in less than an hour. Has anyone else done this cut?

IIRC,, Manual trans cars bell housings are intact. The automatic trans cars have the slot cut from the factory.
