I need to buy all new exhaust for my 64 gto convertible. I see A-body systems are available from Flow-Master and Pypes. Can anyone make a recomendasion as to what is the best set up to go with.

We are finishing up the off-frame resto on my 64 GTO Tripower Convertible, and after a lot of research we came up with the following exhaust system components, many of which were purchased from the forums host Performance Years. It is not a stock system, but it should last forever and should sound good: 2.5" stainless downpipes, Pypes SGA30 kit (2.5" stainless downpipe extensions and 2.5" tail pipes), stainless 2.5" exhaust splitters, and of course all associated flanges, clamps and hangers. We picked the Dynomax 2.5" Ultraflow long case mufflers in stainless. You can save a couple of hundred by getting the Ultraflows in welded steel. I like the deep tone of the straight thru mufflers as opposed to the chambered mufflers. The CD Silent Power, available through PY, can help you choose a muffler sound that you like. The whole package was espensive, but after going thru the off frame restoration, you kind of get numb to it. We ordered the mufflers from JEGS. It has not been bolted on yet, but we are looking forward to firing it up. Hope this helps. Walt.

If you are looking for a stock system, Jarhead is correct the only choice is to go with a Gardner Exhaust.

If you looking for something with a little more performance then look into a pypes or flowmaster set up. I went with the flowmaster 2.5 with Super Turbo mufflers.

You just need to make the choice as to what you want.

I got mine from Ames. All stock, bolted right on. About $300 for 2 head pipes, 2 mufflers, and 2 tail pipes. All the others were ridiculously priced in my opinion. This was for a 1965 but I think 64 is same. Check it out.

If you don't need to be absolutely "correct", the '67 GTO D port manifolds bolt on and fit the chassis perfectly. They look like factory manifolds and add nicely to HP. with whatever engine you have. As a bonus, headpipes, mufflers, and tailpipes from the '67 will fit if your exhaust guy has the program for his bender. Midas and others around here do have the info for this. I like that better than ordering from a vendor far away.

The local Midas just did my a system for my Dad's 64. They ordered him a 2 -1/2" kit from Dynomax, which they are a dealer of, and installed it there for him in just a few hours. Plus if there are any issues with it they stand behind it and do all the re-work for free. Sounded like alot better deal than the Flowmaster kit I bought a month earlier for my 62 SS for more money, that I still had to do myself, with NO warranty. Just a option maybe you hadn't thought of.
