I'm replacing the OHC6 in my '69 LeMans 4-speed with a 462. I've got the mighty mounts for the 400 block ('68), will the mount brackets on the frame be the same and bolt right up, or do I need V8 specific brackets? Anything else I need for the swap? I got the bellhousing already, is the clutch linkage all the same? Thanks! With any luck it'll go in next week. (Can't wait!)

Clutch linkage is the same, the ball stud for the block is different between V8 and OHC-6. Hope this helps |

the frame mounts on the ohc6 are different. looked into that when i had my 68 lemans. went out and found a set of V8 mounts, but sold the car before i made the swap. i'll look for them tomarrow and snap a couple pics. maybe a visual and/or some measurements will help. it's been a few years, but i'm thinking the ohc's were taller.

The six-cylinder mounts are wider. Also, the starter and fuel pump will be on the left side with the V-8, you will need to move the battery, cables, and fuel lines. The six cylinder throttle cable will probably also be too long. You will need V-8 coil springs on the front if you don't want to be scraping the ground. You will probably need a bigger radiator too.

My 4BBL OHC6 gets 18 mpg. It's in my '67 Firebird. I rebuilt it ten years ago. The 462 cu in. engine in my '77 LeMans Sport Coupe gets 8 mpg. Guess which one gets driven most? Wasn't always that way, but at $3.50 a gallon, the gas pains are getting unbearable. Just spent $70 bucks tonight to put 20 gallons into the LeMans. You can't, however, beat the almost 500 horses the V8 puts out!!
