I'm looking at a truck on a bank repo sale, Does anybody have one? What do they get for milage? Do they run good or are the 6.0s dogs?
I like my 97 Z71 with the 350 vortec but I don't know wheither or not the 2000 would be that much better

the performance seems to be 50/50 on them. i know a woman who had one that ran like a scaulded dog and her dad bought one because of it. my 94 350 gets better mileage than his and will pull as well as it if not better. it's a crap shoot as to which ones run better than others.
my customers that have them complain about fuel economy which isn't impressive at all. mike

Did'nt the 2000 6.0 have the Piston slap problem?? I know one of our customers owned 3 of them, ended up getting like $6000.00 a piece back from GM. I know they're still running, but sounds like a loud lifter tick while standing next to truck.

The municipality I work for has 4 2003-2005 HD2500 Chevy trucks. They all have the 6.0 engine. One has around 75,000 but the others have over 100,000 on them. The only problem I've ever seen is an A/C compressor locked up at around 85,000, and the famous GM instrument cluster issue. That's where the dash instruments just up and quit without notice. It's all one piece and cost us around $600. However, after the 3rd truck's cluster went bad, the local dealer repaired it for free. We operate these trucks 24/7/365 with lots of idling time, in bad weather, and we pull a 500 gallon sewer jet trailer frequently. We also pull a trailer and small tractor regularly as well. None have the famous lifter tick problem, but will rattle a little when first started on a cold day.

My brother bought new a 2000 model 2500 Z71 with the 6.0. Mileage was 12-13 mpg. Put over 110K on it as a daily driver. Only powertrain problem was cracked flywheel.

I think the earlier 6.0s had cast iron heads; one I rode in almost felt like a '54 in there.

I have a 2002 2500HD crew cab short box with the 6.0 and auto tranny. Around 12 for mileage around town (heavy foot and 4.10's in the rear) and about 14-15 highway mileage. Pulls our 28foot travel trailer at the speed limit on all roads with the a/c on. A little slower up some of the steeper hills and she likes to be wound up to make power. I am usually going faster than I should and have to remind myself to slow down.
I would have bought the duramax but I just couldn't justify the extra cost to purchase or fill the tank with diesel when the "little" 6.0 does everything I need. No problems so far and I have about 80,000 miles on it so far. |

Thanks to everyone for there input! I decided to keep my 97 for now, it had the same miles as the 2000 and is a little nicer.
