R.A.R.E. 2.5 HO vs. PY 2.5 HO Manifolds
Hi,
This is for everyone but I hope CCass will chime in. I was wondering if there has been any side by side pics and comparison done concerning RARE and PY's HO manifolds. Thanks, Joe

Not to slight any of PY's products, but the RARE manifold is closer in appearance to the one carried by PY and the other restoration suppliers.

About 5 years ago, HPP did a side by side comparison of the two different brands and sited small plus's and minus's of each. From a performance standpoint, their dyno tests yielded almost identical results. In that same dyno testing session, Pypes mandrel bent downpipes were tested and actually yielded as much hp(8hp) gain as the manifolds did! My point is that whichever manifolds you pick, you will be happy with them and consider taking the same care and consideration when choosing the rest of your exhaust.

Chris,
Sorry I said that - can't wait to see them at the next show - It's always a plus for us when products get refined. Any chance you can do custom date codes for an extra fee?

Don't worry about it. If originality is important, the some of the RA manifolds will still be the better choice. When I said better, I meant better castings, higher flow and better price. Unfortunately our manifolds were designed with performance in mind and not originality. We've brought the price down a decent amount but the trade off is we can't do date coding and such.

Chris, if you have figures, what would you estimate as a typical h.p. gain (67 GTO 400)when changing from original logs to a pair of R/A manifolds with your downpipes and X-pipe system, 2.5" all the way?
BTW, when I got home from PITP with my new PYPES system, I had to unpack it and check it all out. Good thing it's stainless, because I was slobbering all over it. |

I did notice that about you, Steve. you do seem to slobber a bit.

Ccass and others,
Thanks for the info. I was wondering if the PY manifolds are "gasket matched" and cleaned up like RARE says. Thanks again, I love these forums!

...don't get RARE 2.5" roundport manifolds for that '66 tempest of yours unless you want to cut a hole in your frame
the D-ports might be fine I don't know if the PY ones have that issue - but severely miffed me about the RARE ones One of the exhaust bosses is at the worst possible spot and hits the frame - I think their website even admits 'minor alteration potentially possible' or something - or that's what they told me on the phone maybe (no reason for this, if they just rotated the bosses 10 degrees or so RARE's website should say, "you're going to have to grind a big focking hole in your frame to get these to fit"

That's one of the big improvements we're making. There is a LOT of port work done around the gasket area.

The D-ports are our own reproduction. Not CR and not PP.
