It's a semi-gloss black. I powder coated all of mine.

I've painted the grooves on mine, never had a problem. Powder coating is best, most durable, but a semi gloss out of a can is fine. Duplicolor is great, comes out of the can real nice and is available EVERYWHERE...

I'm sorry - where you asking what color? I've painted all my pulley's semi gloss black, I like the contrast to the engine block color

Krylon, I forget the exact name of the black (semi-gloss black?), but it's #1613

powdercoating will add a small bit of material to the pulley groove (and rest of pulley for that matter). may be a problem, may not.

I've powder-coated with Gloss Black :excellent, don't paint into the grooves.
Powder coat can go on thick, thus ruining the readability.
Powder coat can show a craze texture called "orange peel" depending on who's process was used. You want the texture to be still-pond optical flatness.

I've used Semi-gloss: must glass-bead, use black non-sanding primer, then paint Semi-Gloss Black for satisfaction. Flatness is nearly always a still pond optically flat.
Code readability excellent.

I've preferred factory paint, thus good original condition pulleys simple because the pully metal can have pits in really important inside creases that affect strength.

Except GTO Alt-Pulley, I prefer the 1980s-1990s large diameter pulley having a chromate//clear coating.
================================================== ======
OHC6-Alt pulley is double-row, so Gloss Black powder-coat looked super.
