LOOKING FOR OPINIONS ON BIAS-PLY REPROS ( FIRESTONE WIDE OVALS GOODYEAR POLYGLASS GT'S VS. MODERN RADIALS ( BFG T/A'S, FIRESTONE INDY 500, ETC. ) FOR BEST BITE AT THE TRACK.
I WANT TO RUN STOCK SIZE TIRE ( G60-15 BIAS-PLY OR ITS' EQUIVALENT, P245/60/15 RADIAL ) FOR THE STOCK APPEARING DRAGS, ON MY 72' LEMANS. I HAVE HEARD SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY PREFER THE BIAS-PLY, THEY SEEM TO RECOVER BETTER IF YOU BREAK LOOSE. THANKS & GREAT TO GET EVERYONES' FEEDBACK! |

I dont have your answer but Ive always wondered if the fastest of the FAST cars are using the same redlines etc that restored cars use or if those tires are really "stock appearing" race slicks. They are good drivers of course but still the 60 ft times make me wonder.

Go for the bias plys! I run my car in F.A.S.T. and get nearly the same 60' as with drag radials. Regular radials don't even come close! My car hooks better on the street with G70-14 than on the 275/60/15 that I use as my regular street tires.
I've run the Wide-Ovals in the past and just put on a set of Polyglas last week and ran them out at Norwalk. I got better 60's with the Firestones but they were also "broken in" whereas the Goodyears are brand new. I haven't seen a clear difference in preferences amongst the racers and some guys run both. BTW, the really fast guys in F.A.S.T. are running the same Wide-Ovals and Polylglas as the resto crowd though they do some prep to them, namely treating them with VHT or the like. Still their 60 foot times aren't all that spectacular- they leave soft and come on strong down the track.
