What is the easiest way to get the alternator fan and pulley off on a '68 GTO? Is the retaining nut reverse threaded? Do I need to take the alternator off the car completely to do it?

I believe the end of the shaft on a Delco has a hex in it for holding the shaft with an Allen wrench. It should also be a normal, right-hand thread.
