I took the GTO out for a spin this weekend and ran through a rain shower. I haven't used the wipers for an extended period of time for many years. The wipers wiped about 5 times, the would only come up about 3 inches then go back down. I cut the switch off, and they continued to do the 3 inch dance for about 5 cycles, then finally cut off. I tried both the low and high speeds on the switch with the same results. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? I tried to pull the wipers up while they were in this "short cycle", but this didn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had the same problem and haven't had much time to figure it out either. I used Rain-X on the glass and don't dare touch the switch. Let me know if you figure it out and I'll do the same.

Sounds like it may be the contacts sticking. When you turn off the wipers mid way through the cycle, they don't stop, but rather get to the bottom and park. That's the contacts (or points) that keep power to the motor until it reaches bottom, where they SHOULD open up and stop. If I remember correctly, (and I'm getting old), you should be able to see these without pulling the entire motor out.

Possibly a bad ground either at the wiper motor or at the wiper switch. Also check the fuses, see if any are blown.

It sounds to me like the drive pawl is stuck in the relay switch slot so it's not coming out and locking the gear for operation. It's trying to park itself instead. Take the washer pump off the front, take a flat head screwdriver and tweak up on the drive pawl to disengage it from the relay slot. clamp a ground onto the body of the motor, you should get at least one full rotation with the switch in the off position with the ignition on before it returns to park. it may just be stuck so once you pop it loose it works fine after that.

So I followed this post and got my wiper motor "unstuck", now the washer pump wont stop when I run the wipers?
Is the pump cam out of sync? Any ideas? |

So I pushed what looked to be the bar that drives the pump, it clicked into a new position, so now the motor runs without the pump being on.
Now the pump doesnt work at all? Something is out of sync, any ideas? I'm thinking "hell with the washer pump"!! |
