The YT is the engine code
The 481152 is the eun (engine unit number) The 36133 is the block casting code probably 9786133, the 3 is probably an 8 in your post The 0227 is the date code, which is probably D227 The clock shows it cast 10 o'clock at night The BB is probably a machine shop mark, probably rebuilt before. Engine codes

is it drilled for 4 bolts?

I have never seen a 67 400 2 bolt block drilled for 4 bolts. I think that started in 69. Also, as far as 400 are concerned, I believe only the RAIV and V blocks were 4 bolt main.

Boy, C227 must have been one long casting day because I have seen a lot of 67 parts with that same exact date code. Way more than any other date code period, for any year.

I know Pontiac started putting the vin# on the block in '68...but if my car has a build date of March 67 does that mean it's the correct period block?
I just tell everyone it's #'s matching anyway...

I saw a 67 GTO engine that was cast on C227 that had the VIN stamped in the block. It is stamped next to the timing cover on the front face of the block on the passenger side, just above the pan rail. Only the last digits of the VIN are stamped.

I'll double check but I've had this car for 5+ years and I'm pretty sure the vin isn't cast on it...

It's not cast in. It's stamped in with small numbers[maybe 1/8"- 3/16" tall] and they are vertical right next to the timing cover. I have heard that all are not stamped. Usually paint or grease covers them up.

Would they have done that on the early 67 models? Like I said, the vin# is clearly visible on my 68 GTO and the 73 455 that I put in my LeMans...

Well, I was told years ago that they didn't start doing it until 1968 but my friends GTO was built in March of 1967. It had the original block in it and it had the stamps. Others have stated seeing it as early as 1961. I have talked to others with 67 GTO's and they have stated they had no VIN code on theirs so I'm not sure if it was an assembly plant thing or what. Seems some have them and some don't.

Year One said vin stamping started in late 67.
Does not specify which month, just late. |

Pontiac stamped the partial VIN on the blocks thru 1963.
Federal law mandated the partial VIN's, so Jan 1 they had to be stamped. Probably some late 67 engines were stamped, maybe for 68 model year? There should be a VIN under the windshield cowl cover I believe.
