RediRad Update!
Hey guys,

thats what I thought but what? maybe a stepup 6v-12v? that might be useful
personally Id rather listen to a scratchy old 6v AM radio while driving such a car but repairing those can be pricey. |

Depending on where you live, AM isn't all that great any more. Unless you like lots of religious and farm market radio shows, and there's a ton of that here.
 So with that... this RediRad sounds pretty good.

oops! I guess I shouldda mentioned the damn product!
I am referring to the RediRad! The only product that allows you to keep your factory radio and still enjoy music from modern music players! BVR421, picture your '63 with its stock dash, playing your favorite music!

Matt, give more info on it..... like what does it do and the cost? Any links to a website for it? I'm planning on adding an aftermarket AM/FM/CD player unit to my Goat and keep the original AM radio in the dash.

Long Response Warning...

In a nutshell... The RediRad allows you to enjoy the music from any (yes, ANY) portable music player through your 12V factory automobile AM (or AM-FM or AM-FM-tape) radio. If you are an audiophile, the RediRad probably isn't for you. But if you want to enjoy music while you cuise in your Pontiac and originality is important either from a vehicle value or aesthetic standpoint, the RediRad is the best -and most affordable- solution the problem. Price is $119 thru PY (part number RPZ189). RediRad Features... -> the RediRad automatically switches between broadcast AM and your portable player when music is detected at the audio cable. -> you retain your UNMODIFIED AM or AM-FM radio because the RediRad routes signal to the AM band, not the FM band. -> your car does NOT need an antenna because the RediRad keeps the signal with the coax cable. (so you're golden even if you have a rod or custom with either dummy antennas or no antenna at all) -> save hundreds of dollars over having your original radio gutted and filled with modern stuff. -> a dashboard with that factory appearance -> no hidden stereos to jag around with or be stolen. I should mention that installing a RediRad is painless: 1) unplug the antenna from the radio (if equipped) then plug the RediRad into the radio's antenna socket. 2) connect the RediRad to +12V power and negative ground. 3) if you have an antenna, plug it into the RediRad. 4) route the 6' audio cable (with a universal 1/8" plug) so you can plug it into your portable player(s). ...you guys still awake? Guys install on this is a cakewalk.
I installed one in my 65 G/P in less than 15 minutes. It works well and, as Matt says, allows you to adapt modern music storage to your vintage sound system. Mike

Matt- glad you'll be adding a 6v version. You might want to point out to customers that 6v-to-12v DC-to-DC converters are available inexpensively, if they want to use a 12v music source- CD player, or whatever. I have an Antique Electronics Supply converter (POS-gnd 6v to NEG-gnd 12v) in my '55 Plymouth. It's a tiny 1.5" cube and wasn't expensive.

just a minor edit: the website you copied will take folks to the RediRad-for-6V page...Plain ol' www.rediscoveradio.com is where you want to start looking for info... Part of my 15 minutes of fame, I guess: You can also see the product demonstrated on youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-uznlSY59U (there is about 15 seconds of silence at the beginning, don't know why)
