'77 T/A with Pontiac 400--shaker scoop rubs rear edge of hood opening enough to make shutting the hood a difficult process; and it's worn ~3/8" gouges into the back edge of the shaker. The shaker is correct for a Pontiac 400 in '77.
I have another thread about this issue; (http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=577526 ) originally I thought the P4B manifold and Carter carb positioned the scoop too far to the rear of the engine. Although I still haven't had time to measure the carb location, I've changed my mind, I now think the whole engine and transmission have been moved rearward in the chassis. There are several things that make me think the engine is too far rearward, and I didn't notice them the first time I worked on the car. 1. The fan is too far rearward in relation to the fan shroud. The top of the fan is 100% out of the shroud; although the bottom of the fan is in the shroud a little ways. (the fan is not tilted the same angle that the shroud is; and that too is probably not as it should be.) The fan clutch is the correct part number (2705) according to the catalog. 2. The driveshaft has to be pushed ALL the way into the transmission until it bottoms out on the input shaft, and even then it'll JUST slide into position on the pinion yoke. I was wrong about it not being jammed extra-deep into the trans. 3. There were transmission fluid leaks; fixing them meant I spend a considerable amount of time under the car recently. I noticed that the trans mount bolt is all the way to the back of the slotted hole in the crossmember. The "shelf" on the crossmember that the mount attaches to is overlapping the Turbo 350 pan flange so much that the pan won't come off unless it's tipped WAY down in front--the pan is almost vertical before the rear pan flange will clear the valve body and the crossmember enough to remove the pan. In fact, one pan bolt is almost impossible to get to because the crossmember "shelf" is in the way. The original engine has been replaced with a '69 block; as such it has the aftermarket motor mount adapters to convert a 3-bolt block to fit into a Firebird chassis. And I'm wondering if those mounts could have shoved the engine rearward by ~1/2 inch or so, and perhaps changed the angle of the engine enough to have tilted the fan in relation to the shroud . I know what you mean with these adapters. My setup is the exact opposite of your's in that I am using a set to use a 77 block in my 69. I also think they position the engine somewhat more back as I had difficulty with the trans mount bolts. I can't picture it right now but I also think my fan might be more out of the shroud than it should be.
Another problem I had which you might not have had was that the plates made the mount width too wide and to get both mounts in the frame stands, I had to bolt 1 side in and then use a pipe and a sledge hammer to force the other mount into the stand to get the bolt in.
