Curtis and I took the Bird to Gainesville raceway last night to make a few passes. It was cold by our standards; first run at 48 degrees and last one at 35 degrees. Very dry air,and I was told that the density altitude was -1300! Mineshaft conditions but track was cold and we had some traction issues on all runs but not to bad after several hours of cars going down the track. Managed an 11.65 on the last pass but 60' was still off about .05 from our best. Anyway, I'll take it over the blistering hot days that we usually have to race in down here.

Prostreet64: will you be at the BOPC drags at G-ville in Dec ?
Headed to Bradenton tonight for TNT with new spark plugs, hope the humidity stays down. Also think it is cool that your son and you go to the strip together. My son Rob drives our Catalina. Jim

Jim, Curtis and I will definitely be at the BOPC race. If you are planning to be there I would like to see you car. By the way, how do you manage a 1.60 short time on 235 tires?

Prostreet64: look forward to meeting you at G-Ville in Dec. We did post a 1.60 on 235s but the problem was the track had to be near perfect for a launch. We spun a lot of times coming out. We have since moved up to 275s and the sixtys are very consistent with a best of 1.59. Was at Brandenton tonight and son Rob posted a new best of 11.64/1.59/113. I am REALLY impressed with your times and you're running an iron headed 400 !! That's some darn good wrenching there Dad.
Jesse: none of the Poncho Posse was there except Rob and I. I think Mike had to work. Jim

Thanks guys for the compliments but without a lot of good advice, much of it coming from this site, and also the work that Ken K. did on the motor, we wouldn't be where we are. I will say that we have done all of our own engine assembly over the years and all of our tuning afterward.
440GP69, race weight is 3800 with Curtis on board although that figure is probably closer to 3850 these days since he has been working out and now weighs closer to 200 lbs than the 150 he weighed when we started racing 7 years ago. 66bonne, sounds like you and Rob are on the same quest that we are; 11.50's here we come. Great job with the big iron!
