Pontiacs have the #2 rod toward the front, then #1 behind it. Sorry no pics on my end. I'm sure someone can post.I would think if you do a search there should be pics posted in the past.

Some guys number them 1-8 front to back, others number them to the actual cyl #. It really doesn't matter as long as you know how they are labeled AND how they go in the engine.

thats what i want to figure out lol
If the first journal is #2 then #1 is the second journal #4 then #3 and then #6and #5 and finially #8and #7 ???would seem to follow the first journal pattern correct??? This is a new assembly with eagle crank and rods if that makes any difference....

Not trying to state the obvious but if you know the odd number cylinders are on the drivers side and the even numbers on the passenger side then they can only fit one place. They don't exactly flex :-).
The primary issue you need to worry about is making sure the rod is turned the right way since two ride together on each of the 4 journals and one side of each rod is chamfered. |

Yes, looking at the crank from the bottom, the rods go 2-1,4-3,6-5,8-7.
(using the normal Pontiac cyl. numbering.) Doug is right, also.
