I'm trying my best to get my car nice and straight but i know it won't end up being perfect therefore i know choosing a color like black is a bad idea. so i've thought about what color i might want to paint the car and have come down to 3 ideas.....white, mustang silver, or white with red racing stripes.

the car is a 79 formula
the front and rear windshield trims are satin black and i'm not installing any chrome moldings on the car.
as for wheels right now she's dressed with a pair of cragar ss's but i want to upgrade the size to 17s.
the interior is carmine red.

what do you guys think would be the best bet ?

if i did racing stripes would you run the lines all the way from the front bumper to rear bumper or only to the hood like the picture ?

White will be your best bet. As you already know, darker colors show waves and poor bodywork the worst. Sand scratches, chips and other surface imperfections are worse under a metallic.

Light colors are the way to go, however having the proper gaps will be more important with the lighter colors as they will be highlighted!

IME, Grey will hide as much as anything. Of course it'll still be grey no matter how much you polish it.

i do prefer the tungsten grey metallic...but if its going to bring out the imperfections i have no problem going with white. i'll check the price for some paint maybe i can test spray an area i feel might be a problem and see how it turns out. from there i guess i could make the best judgement.

so then just for polling purposes how do you guys feel about racing stripes ?

as for the body gaps i'm not too worried. i'll try my best with my buddy to get everything aligned...not that i don't think we could do a better job then the factory did ! but then my teacher from boces will tweak anything if need be.

I think you're going about this with the wrong attitude. Don't try to hide imperfections with a blah paint job. Take your time and work those imperfections out. You can do it.
After all, paint is expensive, and it's only going to look as good as the prep work under it, no matter what color you choose.

White will hide the most as it's much higher in the visible color spectrum.

Silver would be next, as the metallic adds visual noise.

White metallic would be the best of all, for hiding imperfections.

What RLEbird said X2.What's wrong with taking your time,shooting on another coat of primer/filler and blocking one more time?If you do that,you WON'T regret it,whereas if you leave some mistakes in it,you'll always see them.Maybe nobody else will,but YOU will.Good luck.

Gotta agree with Paint Guy. Do it right the first time and then paint it the color you want. Tho black looks good cleaned and shined, it's the biggest PITA to keep clean and shined. My 79 Formula was black and I regretted getting that color the summer of 79. LOL

Silver like on the silver 10th Anniversary T/As is a nice color, and won't show the dirt as much. But IMHO, imperfections will show in any color because you know they're there.

primer, that way you can always say that you have that little bit of bodywork to finish up ...

Primer with clear with flattening agent that way your hard work so far won't be wasted. or tint the primer till you have the time or money to do it to your satisfaction . Nothing stinks more than rushing bodywork that you will probably look at for the next few years.Be patient, paint NEVER hides imperfections .

you guys are right but i do want to re-iterate i'm not looking for a show stopper whatsoever. this car will be an everyday driver and will see snow and rain...i intend to beat it real hard. so i think i'll just block and block and block and see what i can't come up with and if i'm still not content with where i'm getting i'll try to get my old teacher from boces to get everything up to snuff....he'll give me a pretty good price.
