Problem: 65 GTO door will not go in once seal is installed

This door would go in correct before I put the seal on .... I didnt not have striker on at the time but the door would go in and line well

I put the seal on and now cannot get it close to in enuff. Striker is all the way towards inside the car. With striker off I can force it in to the right position(edited this). Seal is made by soffseal and the passengers side fit and close is great.

I believe the seal to be on correct pretty easy install I did adhesive it already, took the rubber bumpers off as well

What am I doing wrong? This is an awful gap and I have slammed this door as hard as I could Or how can I get more to the inside out of a striker when its maxed out position?

Had the same problem with my 68 Firebird. Threw out the Soff Seals and switched to Metro Seal and problem was solved... Soff Seal was way too hard. Not sure about this issue concerning your GTO but I suppose it´s the same reason...

Has the car been recently assembled? Other than a too thick seal, it could be a few other things. First, if you are only getting one click with the latch, you're on the safety/secondary, move the striker outward until you get two clicks. Also, check to see if the vent window frame is binding at the pillar seal. Another possibility is front of door is adjusted in too close to hinge pillar, causing a pinch in seal.
Last resort, adjust striker to get door in the hole and leave it shut for a couple of weeks.

could you have the seal reversed?
most likely its at the door hinge area thats causing it.
was the door and fender removed?
if so the likely problem is one or both door hinges are in too much,,
may be a big hassle but removing the fender
will open it up for seeing te rubber

i had the same problem w/mine,wouldnt loosen up enough even after sitting closed all winter

Kind of found prooblem I took a washer off the striker It had 2 so I went with 1 and that worked
