Hello:

Going through all the sheet metal of my 1970 Judge basketcase and realize that the rad support has been butchered by a previous owner. It appears some metal was cut off the top where the plate that holds the rad in place bolts on, and the plate that was holding the rad doesn't look anything like what the parts books show. Also, the battery tray looks to be held in with homemade angle iron brackets, and is probably not the right one either. The modified rad support confused me since I have another rad from a 70 GTO and it is the same as what came out of my Judge, so I don't understand why someone would hack the rad support to use a different hold down plate.

Does anyone have some pics of the top of a 1970 GTO rad support (hopefully a bare support without the filler panel or radiator installed), as well as the how the battery tray is installed/bolted in? I have a rad support from a 72 Lemans, so I might be able to splice in the missing section if it appears to be the same.

There is no hold down plate for the radiator. The plastic fan shroud bolts to the top of the support, and the bottom of the support. It holds the radiator in place. Pictures of a 70 rad support are easy to find, the repop support made for 68-70 GTO's is actually a 70 part. You can find one on ebay easy enough. The 72 support may be able to be modified to work. I'd buy the repop.

The battery tray bolts directly to the left inner fender and the core support with three bolts. No brackets.

Ahh, that is starting to make sense....the car came without any type of fan shrowd, so the previous owner must had found some other type of hold down plate and modified the rad support (including drilling 4 new holes) to attach the plate.

Is the tray installed so the battery is widest when looking at the front of the car or the side of the car? (Hope I am making sense??)

The battery and tray are installed front to back, lengthwise.
