Default 69 GTO body bushings hardtop

Are the body mount bushing all the same thickness? If not where do the thinner one go?

Thanks

I can't remember for certain, but I think any thinner mounts would be located on the frame rails after the differential, under the trunk area. Ask GTO John.

hmmmmmm, is the body off the frame & did you save each bushing & label where you got it????
most only fit in certain places so process of elimination is best, but easier if the body is off

IIRC, the 4 behind the r/e are smaller in diameter than the rest. But I think they all are about the same thickness.

How many "thin" ones do you have? If it's only 2, then they may be for the core support?

I think I've got it right now. They are all the same thickness. One of the bushings only goes up front and one at the rear by the suspension. All the others have the bolts. I have one in the middle of the car that I can't line up. I've tried to keep all the other loose and move the body some. I know the nut in the body is good. Should I try to pry the frame over? I don't see that working but..... Any ideas? Thanks

We just pulled a relatively clean, original 68 GTO off the frame, the four rear mounts were smaller diameter than all of the other mounts. The pucks, or mounts with no holes, go over the rearend and the inner front locations. While i know the factory color keyed these mounts the only definate coloration was the inner front pucks that were blue.

The thickness at this point in time means nothing as the weight of the car has obliterated the original mounts.

we have had to actually remove all of the bolts behind the non-aligning one, shift the body until it lined up and shift it back into position. Good Luck.

I have taken apart dozens of these cars, studied the mounts and thrown them out. The reproduction mounts aren't the exact same, but work fine. The reproduction mount kits come with two different size mounts and one size puck. Reusing body mounts has never been an option on any car I have ever worked on.

I bought a body bushing kit for my 68 hardtop and I'm not sure that enough mounts were included.

According to the vendor, the area under the cowl gets one bolted mount and nothing in the other hole.

Thoughts?

If you are talking about the "E" hole, that is a convertible only deal. Convertibles get 4 mounts under the cowl and hardtops only 2.

My 69 Lemans had those "pucks" under the front cowl.. I parted a 70 chevelle that did not. Both cars appeared original. I suspect the extra pucks help with rigidity. My thinking was the "premium" brands got the extra supports and the base models or chevrolets did not. Similar to the extra insulated transmission crossmember(chevelle mounted directly to the frame and pontiac had the insulators)Both frames had the provision for the extra pucks.

BTW the Lemans and Chevelle were both hardtops.

I most definitely pulled 2 pucks and 2 mounts from under the cowl. So I'm wondering why the kits don't include the correct number of pucks. And they don't sell the individual pucks.

If a 68 is the same as a 69 in this regard, I think my 69 gto hardtop has the 2 piece bushings at the "B" locations and solid cushions ('A') in the "E" locations.

IIRC, that is.

We need some convertible owners to chime in here. There was a previous thread that discussed the differences. I think the consensus was the Hardtops had the bolted mount and solid puck combo under the front cowl. The convertibles used four bolted mounts ? So what would it take for us that have hardtops to use a convertible mount kit to tighten things up even more by using bolted mounts in all locations as the verts ?
