Ok - I have gotten confusing reply's to this question. Just simply, what is the best method/way to set the timming on a big block car? Please lay it out as simply as you can? I was told to set tottal timming first then I was told not to do that and I have bin told to set it almost 20 degrees different from various people? I just was wondering what you guys think? Is there a smart resonable sound way to do this when you have no Idea where to start from? Thanks in advance for any help you can throw my way.
Thanks, Arkangel77 PS - its a 68 Firebird with a 427 Chevy motor, mild cam, edelbrock carb, street rod build, 10 to 1 comp, umm - thats all I can think of right now.

Probably not getting much info because most people here know Pontiac engines not chevy.
I'd say, set the timing to what the factory says, then trial and error. Advance it and see how it runs, then keep going to it falls off. ET slips would be the best way to see if it slows down or not. Also, most hi-performance setups want a quicker advance rate in the distributor which is some more testing and trial and error.

Arkangel, You will get more response if you post this in the 'Street' section or the 'Non-Pontiac motors in Pontiacs' sections.
