Default 68 GTO CHROME nose convert sighting...

I saw a verdero green, parchment interior GTO convert to day. I was next to it, all faded nasty paint rough interior, almost crapped when i saw the chrome nose. Im gonna hunt it down, a buddy said he knows the owner and it a real GTO....neat car...

There were a few of those people out there that said "I don't want that fangled rubber bumper on my car". Little did they know how rare they made the car. Although rare does not always mean desirable. But the GTO chrome nose looks great compared to the Lemans. Just my option of course.

Default Verdoro w/Chrome nose

The Chrome nose is rather rare for 68 GTO's. It wasn't always an option, but sometimes a requirement to get cars built. I know someone who ordered a Verdoro green car, and was notified of a production delay, due to a problem with the endura. He was offered to have his car built with the Chrome nose if he wanted it right away, or there would be a wait until the endura problem was resolved. He opted to wait for the endura.

Just an FYI, the 68 GTO chrome nose WAS the LeMans nose, and grilles as well. However, the 69 LeMans nose is hideous in comparison to the 68 version...

You nailed it. The 69 chrome bumper looks like dog doodo in comparison.

Remember the 68 was A one year only. And they are not like A LeMans crome bumper.

That's not true. Just like Paul said above the 68 lemans bumper is the same thing as a 68 gto with endura delete. You are correct about it being a stand alone year, just like the '69 was.

Lighter too - a smart racer would order endura delete.

Having owned a special paint code 68 with a chrome bumper, and still possessing the bumper, and numerous 68 LeMans, I know of what I speak. Not to mention they shared the same GM part number.

Please post the differences between the chrome noses 68/69
I think my bar is sitting too far away from the body .It was off the car when i purchased it, there are not too many here in Australia to check.
i think the GTO badge was from the 67 GTO its only got two mounting pins ,unless my grille insert is incorrect.

Your nose is a 68. The 69 nose and grilles drop down in the center a couple of inches. The lower bar appears fatter all the way across. They are way different. Way ugly too.

The gap ? is it right .
Its a pain to adjust , valance out to get at the adjusting bolts unless you have very very small hands .
Unless there is a easier way?

The gap looks right. It accomodates the rubber filler used between the fenders and the chrome bumper.

By the way Craig...You probably already know this but the black is not correct for the grilles on your car. It's a personal choice obviously.
I only mention it in case you didn't know and since you pointed out that it's hard to find any correct examples down there.
The '68 chrome bumper and grille inserts are really good looking. The correct paint really brings out the design of the grille nicely in my opinion.

Nice example of a fellow forum member's car here-

And here's one I spotted at a local BOP show a few years ago. I really like the look on the black car with the Rally I wheels.

Someone on here has painstakingly installed hideaways in a chrome bumper. That is simply amazing. Pontiac should have offered that from the factory!
