Default Victor Intake on the street

I am building a 462 stroker with 330cfm edelbrock heads and mid size cam for a street car. I purchased all the parts from Butler Performance and had Wheeler Racing in Mn machine and assemble the motor. Wheeler racing has finished assembling the motor but is very concerned with fuel wash out at low RPMs. Butler recommended this combo and said it was very reliable. I am curious if anyone else runs this combo on the street and what your thoughts are? It has 3.43 rear end and a TKO 5 speed.

Thanks

i am interested in this one too. i was planning on running an RPM manifold on my similar build. mostly because it will fit under my hood.

i run mine on the street, and through traffic enough to know that it wont be a problem. it was better with the 850 than the dominator but that has nothing to do with the intake, just the carb. and i'm having that fixed. good luck.

My old motor is a 462 with mildly ported e heads, victor and an 850. Used a power glide and 373 gears. It was very responsive, very streetable and ran 10.50's at 125. I had a 4500 rpm continental in it but that 5 speed will be a real animal in the lower gears. Motor was very reliable. I still keep it as a spare.

assuming you can take advantage of the victor intake, you wont have a problem at all with it on the street. I have been driving on the street with my victor/850 setup and recently changed to a victor dominator setup and they both run just fine.

I think there are a lot of guys here running victors on the street, with dominator carbs too, if its tuned right, its a heck of a combo.

You say "mid sized cam" but that could mean something totally different to you than me. Solid Roller, etc., all that stuff can make a difference, esp. where in the RPMs you make your power.

I am presently building a 462 for my TA, and it will be running a victor/dominator combo as well, at least as soon as I buy one for it.

Sounds like your builder is use to fuel wash problems with small block chevys with their 23 degree valve angle when you run a single plane intake, you`ll not have that problem with Pontiacs 14 degree valve angle and the victor unlless the manifold and head runners where ported and polished to a mirror finsh with 320 grit sanding rolls.

I just went through this debate myself not too long ago, and was going to switch from a RPM to a victor, mainly street driven 461. The difference is only a few HP from what I understand, and it's above 4500 rpm, which I didn't feel was enough to warrant the swap. Either will work fine with that combo, and as Steve25 said, may be a paranoia issue with the builder, and when running polished runners. If there is any type of a wash problem, you can correct it pretty much with a turtle. Run what you have, and correct what needs to be corrected after identifying it....

Yep......I agree.......I only briefly considered the Victor after understanding where in the RPM range the Victor is beneficial......will know more next week when we go to the dyno.........but it'll be between a '71 HO intake and a Torker II

Steve Coombes would be one to ask about Victors on the street. He has alot of experience with that intake using several different engine combinations.

Victor on the street will work very good with the combo you described. For optimum performance use a good carb from Pro System or BoLaws. No worries.
