Hi everyone, Ive got a 79 TA that has the factory rear disc package. Ive developed a rattle, or clicking sound in the passenger side rear caliper. It goes away as soon as I touch the brake pedal, then starts back up again soon as I step off the brake. Question is: do the rear disc brake pads have the same kinda retaining clip that holds them inplace against the calipers piston like the fronts have? Thanks.

There is a cheesy thin wire clip that fits in a groove around the piston and grabs the bottom of the pads. Easy to pop it off. Teh pads may be too far off the disc also if you haven't been setting the E brake enough or the ratchet has frozen causing some chatter.

If the clips are the same as the 79-85 Eldorado/Seville/Toronado rear disc brakes cars, I have the clips.

shouldn't be - Eldo's are 2-1/8" diameter, T/A's are 2-1/2"

Thanks for the info guys. I had totally forgotten about that little bugger being there. Been 6 yrs since I installed the new calipers on it. Skip i think you hit the nail on the head about the clatter. I installed theses calipers new and never hooked up the E brake,
my bad as my kids say.lol. I bet they are frozen up from not being used. Makes sense. Now where did those rear caliper E-brake cables I bought go?? Thanks again

Reviving this old thread.
Anyone have any of Trans Am 2.5 inch rear anti rattle clips. Even used ones? I think I looked everywhere and cant find any. Part number 179-841 or 18004026. THX |
