Steering wheels
I need to replace my steering wheel http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...1&d=1244536202 - before you all start its still staying on the Right side .
My 68 wheel is cracked ( stuffed ) so i am looking at changing over to a grant wheel. The boss unit said 69-72 normal group chev,nova,ponti... Is there a difference in the steering shafts between the years? I might have to buy one from the states if so ... |

I don't think there is a difference in the shaft itself, but the area where the steering wheel collar fits to the housing on the column may be a little different. I know that the collar on the original '68 sport wood wheel differs from the '69 and '70. If you look in the parts catalogues you will see the difference. Maybe someone else can chime in on the shaft issue, but I think they are the same.

When I got my parts car 68 GTO it had a 70 standard wheel on it....
You could get a steering wheel restoration kit and fix the wheel. I like the way the original wheels look... unless you're going to completely update the look of the interior.

That's what I'm doing, got mine through eastwood, even comes with a nice instructional booklet. Although I realize that eastwood might not ship to AUS.

now do i go original or aftermarket?
please send the pictures of your wheels ( steering ) with the make or model number for your poor Aussie. my wheel is stuffed big time a crack in the hub all the way through. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...1&d=1244617718 the fun installing the new glove box on a RHD it would have been easier to convert the car to LHD. |
