What would my 1/4 mile et be?
Hello all. I'm a beginning racer and just raced at our local 1/16th mile street drags event. I'm in a 3400 lb GTO with a mildly built 400 and a 4 spd. My best was a 6.10 330 ft with a 1.99 60 ft. This is at 4300 ft elevation, but cool evening air. I'm running a 9" with 3.89 true-trac and slicks.
Any guesses on what my 1/4 mile would be like with these numbers? I'm guessing I would be in the high 13's, is that too optimistic? Does anybody have similar 330/60 times I could compare too? I'm hoping to make a couple 1/8th mile or 1/4 mile events later in the summer. Next will be putting in Grandville's old cam, b-man's old Holley, and an ebay Torker II. Thanks for any help. |

hal101,
Thanks for the slips. Compared to those, my 60 ft. is very similar, but with a slower 330. Could be because I'm having to hit 3rd gear right before the 16th mile lights. Looks like high 13's aren't totally out of the question though. Can't wait til next time. Thanks |

I never even saw a 1/16 mile event.... but if it helps, to convert 1/8 mile E.T. to 1/4 mile E.T. you take your 1/8 and multipy it by 1.55 and you get a real close 1/4 mile time

Yeah, the short distance is kinda lame, but it's a fun atmosphere, because they block off a city street right in town, and set up the lights and some concrete barriers. True legal "street drags". Our new strip just outside of town is still under construction, but hopefully done soon.
The street drags have always been a great little hometown event, but there was a wreck this year. Nobody was hurt, but I'm wondering if it will mean the end of doing it in town. Thanks for the formula. |

Yeah, that's what I figure. It's a fun deal, and actually brings out some very fast and competitive cars. I don't know how many places in the country you can legally race on a city street.

That calculator shows me a little slower.
I'm shifting at about 5400. I thought about stretching that out a little and trying to go through the lights at the top of second gear, without the 2-3 shift. I'd have to experiment a little more. I could probably shift at a little higher RPM without scattering it, but don't know how much my valvetrain will take. |
