question about my well and dripping...
So we have a well at our house...Our bathtub faucet has been dripping for a little while and it's getting worse. My wife's uncle is supposed to help me swap it out at some point soon, but with school/work/commuting I barely have time to pee. Is it ok for me to shut off the water valve leading into the house when we go to bed and when we leave for work? I'm not sure if constantly turning it on and off will do any damage to the hot water heater or anything. I figured the dripping would stop soon after the valve is off, and then just running the water for a min or 2 when it's on to clear out the pipes. Hopefully we can get the faucets swapped out in the next couple weeks, but we're going away this weekend and will be gone for 4 days so I don't want it dripping all that time, plus it's just wasting water on a daily basis(and kicking the pump on).

How fast does it drip? Can you put a 5-gallon bucket under it and reuse the water elsewhere? (Toilet or washing dishes?)

Shut the water and the water heater off when you're gone.
In most faucets you can put a new valve in them. It only takes a couple minutes if the screws aren't frozen. Mke

So maybe it's just the washers? I looked it up and one of them is dripping from behind the handle like it says on the website and looks like they're simple to replace, maybe I'll start there then if that doesn't work I will do the valve (we do want to switch to the 1 handle temp control at some point). Although one of the screws that cap screws into is a little messed up, so maybe I will just do the valve...ugh...the fun of home ownership lol

I put a set of valves in my shower head and I think they cost like 3.00 each. I didn't screw with the washers for that kind of money. 6.00, less than 20 minutes and we were good. It's about time to do them again., my kids are hard on the shower controls.

Oh man if they're that cheap then yeah, I might as well just do them(looks like they just unscrew with channel locks?). And at least we can get more time out of them. Thanks!

On the shower controll valves. Besides the washers, need to check the washer seat that is inside the valve. After the valve shaft & washer assy is removed, look into the inside of the valve assy that is in the wall to see the valve seat. Takes a special tool to remove them. Seats are a couple of bucks, tool is 8-10 bucks.

Allways!!!! If it is dripping, you will usually find a bad spot on the seat where the water has been seeping through.
