Yet another computer highjack attempt.
My wife summoned me upstairs to the Computer Room and showed me a problem she was having with Internet Explorer. There was a message saying that the scan results showed we had a bunch of malicious worms and spyware and needed to run a protection program. She hadn't done anything other than do a search for how to build a rabbit hutch and click on one of the sites that came up.
She had enough sense to not do anything without getting me (this time!), and hadn't clicked anything after the message come up. I tried 3-times to exit the message and it kept coming back up. Tried to exit IE and couldn't do it. Went into Task Manager and found IE and killed it. Brought IE back up, it went to the same search site my wife had been in and got the same message when it did. Had to go back into Task Manager and kill it, again. I looked and there were 2-more IE's running, so I killed them as well. After that, when I opened IE, everything was fine. I don't know how those other 2 IE's got started, or why they weren't on the Taskbar. It's easy to see how someone could be fooled into believing they really had a problem if they weren't alert.

I run Kaspersky internet security & it has stopped several sites from hijacking my system. I've found it's much better than mcafee & norton; well worth the $$$

Rich,
We got the same one Saturday night - even came up with a My Computer window with problems noted on C drive and My Documents folders - simulated problems. Had a real "Microsoft Windows" look to it. I had to do the same thing, CTRL-ALT-DEL and cancel the application.

Download this for free for 90 days. http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/3/default.htm It's less intrusive than other anti-virus programs and doesn't slow your computer down like some other programs.
