Default One car down, nine to go!!!

Been real buisy!! City of Phx changed the code RE; cars on your property. Before, if it was in the rear yard & cant be seen from outside the bounds of the property, it was ok. Now you are only allowed 1 car in your rear yard. I just got a car towed out today & still have 9 to go to comply with code. I got a civil citation in the mail from the city & have to be in court on 5 Jan 2010. The citation has 3 different violations with a $2500 fine each!!!!! Get this, my cars are in my own back yard, behind a 6 foot tall brick wall. I found out the city is using an earth immiging service to search for violators of the new code. This is how they found me!!!! I have been collecting for over 20 years & they gave me 2 weeks to get rid of everything. I didnt, they cited me!!!! Looks like this is going to get real interesting in the next few weeks!!!

A very BIG thank you to my good friend Steve Barcak for letting me store some cars at his place in Maricopa Az.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What am I missing here? How can something be an eyesore if you need earth-imaging to see it?

My point exactly Jack!!!! They changed the code. Doesnt matter if it can be seen now. Not allowed!!! The only way someone on the ground can see in my back yard is if they go in the alley & climb on something & look over the wall!!!!!!! From my understanding, "someone" made a complaint. I asked who??? City said they cant tell me who.

Big Brother is here & watching!!!! Next, they will want to come in the house to make sure I do my laundry & dishes!!!!!!!

Time to rig a couple of large tarps or cam netting over the back yard....lol, have a tarp painted with an image of a garden and string that over the cars.
What a hide they've got....using spy sattelites on citizens.
Have you contacted some reporters about this...bet they'd love to whip up a controvacy about the government using spy sattelites on citizens......

If people don't begin fighting these laws in court as being unconstitutional, it will get worse.

in a case like this, you should be "grandfathered in" . you might want to talk with an attorney about it.

So much for land of the free.
If you put a tarp over the yard, be sure to paint the #1 sign on top of it

That really sucks. They should have no business looking at overhead views if you can see the cars from the street. Sounds like they are trying to generate revenu.

That is ridiculous. Go find a lawyer and see what can be done. Build a pole barn, or just put a roof over the cars?
I've heard some pretty crazy stuff around here, apparently in the city of Poway you can't even change your own oil. Of course California doesn't want you working on your cars anyway. I hate this kind of stuff, it's not like this hobby is hurting anyone.

A tarp probably wouldn't be allowed either if they have this rule.

How about a car port? ( a roof)

Yeah, those d@mn conservatives that run these cities anymore, really screw up living there.
They think 1 Caddy is all you need, why so many cars?

I moved to the country for basically the same thing.

Our town wanted the vehicles to be powered.
Mine were.

Then they had to have license plates.
Mine did.

Then they had to be under 'roof'
Most of mine were.

Then they made a regulation that only so much of your property could be under 'roof'
Mine had too much roof.

Adios amigos.

Now no neighbors, dogs run loose, can pee in the backyard or front.

Start my race cars up with no noise problems.

Run it down the road if I want.

SOMETIMES THE CITY/COUNTY JUST WANTS YOU TO REGISTER THEM. Talk to the codes officer for your area either way. It'll do you good. Don't just call the office. Call the officer that eyeballs stuff if there is one.

We aren't allowed any cars that don't run and aren't registered inside city limits without them being in a structure. You're allowed one project car in the county. We have a classic car clause that is supposed to protect valuable or collector cars. Look into that. If you talk to the actual codes officer in your area, there is usually a work around where he will look the other way on some items, despite official codes. I have an unregistered car on my property, but it runs and is classic. If they pushed me, I'd just transfer a plate to it and be done with it. We are also limited on size of garage as compared to the house. We can't exceed 50% I think, but you might be able to add a $695 steel carport right next to your garage, and against the fence which encloses two sides, then cover the other two with either more steel panels or something as simple as tarps or 6' privacy fence panels and see if that officer will allow that. That can allow you a couple of more cars possibly.

I have had other violations on my property but since they can't be seen without removing the concealment, the officer allowed them, knowing that they were a violation. I essentially built a structure around this violation.

However, if a neighbor can see into your backyard where cars are parked, they are allowed to complain. You can ask the officer to provide evidence that a neighbor can see into your yard from their property. If you know they can, you're probably out of rope.

Sounds to me like "your" home is not really yours anymore. As long as the cars are on your property, behind and fence you are paying taxes, why does it matter to them?

Next time, instead of buying a house, buy a warehouse or a shop. Build you a home inside and you are good to go...LOL! Now you can keep your cars and your house all under one roof.

I like the tarp idea. Reminds me of a Cheech & Chong movie...LOL!

If the governement has to resort to an earth imaging service to find property that is kept behind 6-foot walls then you're living in a communist type of state there. What's the difference of them using imaging devices to see who is home and what they're doing? If I lived there, I'd be putting up a For Sale sign on my property and move.

Wonder why they just hit you with three violations if you had nine and allowed one? Did they miss the others or cut you a break?

Seems like two weeks is unreasonable to move that much....I would complain about that fact.

Steve is a great guy...who has helped me out a few times with storage....
