Default Exhaust Question

I have a 69 FB with a mild 350 that needs exhaust. In the future I might install a 455. Can I install 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 now for the 455 later. How will the 350 perform?

If you KNOW you are going to install a 455,you would be better served putting in the 2-1/2"system,IMO.But it is a bit of overkill for a 350.Let's put it this way, you'll have an easier time time living with a 350 with 2-1/2" exhaust(temporarily)than a 455 with 2-1/4",because you'll always wonder how much better it would've been with the 2-1/2".JMO,I'm hoping others who know more about this will chime in.

I run my 350 with summit headers into 3 inch cross over with electric cutouts. When cutouts are closed it goes thru 2-1/2 pipes to mufflers all the way back thu 2-1/2 tail pipes. it works great!!!

If you don't want to hear the other guys engine at the strip, I just open my cut-outs and I can only hear my engine. It also works great at traffic lights when straight pipe Harley's pull up beside you!!!

Go 2-1/2 you won't regret it.

I ran a full 3" exhaust on a warmed over 350 before I bult the 400. I didnt notice any loss of low end torque with the 350. Low end response likely depends on the cam and what top end you're using on the 350 engine.

You should not notice a difference in performance by installing a 2.5 system behind a 350. You may have to richen up your mixture a bit but not in every case.

If you are having the system made by a local shop, the cost should be the same either way. 2.5" would be a better choice, probably sound better and you've got a ton of room for improvement unless you build a 500hp plus motor.
